Super Mario 64 Tournament (Round 1, Accepting reserves)
Posted: Thu Aug 14, 2008 11:07 pm
Princess Peach, who was feeling thankful for being saved from Bowser several times, invites Mario over to her castle sending the following letter,
Dear Mario,
Please come to the castle. I've baked a cake for you.
Your's truly--
Princess Toadstool
Peach
Soon after the letter was sent, Bowser and his minions invaded the castle, with Yoshi sleeping through the whole thing on the roof. The next day, Mario, Luigi, and Wario came to the castle. (Luigi and Wario secretly see the letter after Mario finished reading it.) When the trio approach the door of the castle, They hear Bowser's voice booming that he has trapped the princess and everyone inside. Yoshi also heard this, waking up and falling into the moat. He climed out and he saw Mario, Luigi, and Wario on the bridge to the castle, running to join them. Mario, Luigi, and Wario were arguing about who would get the cake after they saved Peach. Yoshi went in the castle, The others followed when they saw Yoshi walk in, deciding that whoever saves Peach earns the cake. They walked to the first door marked with only a star, and went in. They saw a picture of a meadow with bob-ombs walking over it. The Toad inside the room said that it was a portal to another world. The group jumped into the picture, and so the adventure begins!
This tournament features 32 (shrunk from 64) people in a race to earn enough stars to save Princess Peach.
This tournamentis open to both premium and freemium members to allow everyone to play (please have at least two open spots by the time the tournament begins).
Everyone will be divided into groups of four. These groups will play in the games of the courses for each round. There are seven games per course.(each game represents a star of the course.) At the end of the last game of a course, the person who makes the most eliminations earns the bonus 8th star of the course (representing the 100 coin star). After each round, the people who advance will be regrouped to play through the courses of the next round. groups that are all Premium play all seven games of a course at one time. groups that have Freemiums play two games at a time. Durring the final round games, all games will be played two at a time (for the sake of the advancing freemiums) unless only premiums advance.
Stars
For each win, you recieve a power star. If you earn enough stars by the end of a round, you advance to the Bowser level of that round. This game takes place once two or more people earn enough stars to advance in one group. If only one person wins enough stars, the other three duel until someone wins enough stars to advance. If no one in a group wins enough stars, then all four people duel. Stars carry over from one round to the next. At the end of a course (all seven played), the person with the most eliminations earns the bonus 8th star (representing the 100 coin star).
Duels
If by the end of a round no one or one person in a group wins enough stars to advance, there is a duel for the stars. The 3 or 4 people in a group play a game on the map and settings of the first course of the round. The winner of the game earns 1 star from each opponent for every 10 rounds the game goes.
Ex.
1-9 rounds: No stars.
10-19 rounds: 1 star from each opponent
20-29 rounds: 2 stars from each opponent
30-39 rounds: 3 stars from each opponent
and so on.
If this doesn't earn the winner enough stars to advance, another duel is played on the next course, and so on until one person earns enough stars to advance. If you run out of stars due to losing a duel, you are eliminated.
Bowser Levels
When at the end of a round, when more than one person earns enough stars to advance, They play a game on that round's Bowser map. The person who wins advances to the next round, and also takes the stars that the losing player(s) won up to that point. After the first round, the top two in each group advance. At least three people must advance to the first bowser level in each group. The top two people advance, splitting the stars from the loser(s).
If there is an odd number of stars, the winner of the game gets the odd star. (rule change)

Race Games
There are three race games durring the tournament on the following courses (one per course):
Bob-omb Battlefield
Cool, Cool Mountain
Tiny-Huge Island
For these games, you must win the game in 50 rounds or less to earn the star. If this is not accomplished, The star is removed from play for tournament reasons (It would take forever to go back and do it again) and tournament play continues as normal.
Castle Secret Stars
If there are not enough stars in play to advance at least two people to the Bowser level by the end of the normal courses (Stars removed from play due to the elimination of nonadvancing players, one player dominates over the others and remaining stars combined are not enough to advance), secret stars have been found. These games are played one at a time on a map and settings determined by Random.org until there are enough stars in play to advance two players. After enough stars come into play, nonadvancing players duel until two players advance.
Now, Lets-A-Go save Princess Peach
Edit: the number of stars required to advance to the third Bowser game has been changed from 60 to 80 because, after the 2nd bowser game, the advancing players would already have at least 60 stars (taking 30 from the losing opponent) making the third round have no point as all players would already have enough stars to advance. Also, In SM64DS 80 stars are required to face bowser for the third time. (yes, I know there would be more stars in play than there are in the game,160 in play to advance two players and 150 in SM64DS , but this is the only way to have the tournament finish properly)
