For this tournament, I need 30 participants, one for each team in Major League Baseball. I have no illusions of playing a full 162 game baseball season like the big leagues do, but have figured out a somewhat slimmed down version that I think will work out well for our purposes.
- Each team will play the other four teams in their division 6 times, 3 home, 3 away for 24 in division games
- Each team will play the other ten teams in their league 3 time, 2 home/1 away or 2 away/1 home for an additional 30 games
- Each team will play 14 of the teams in the opposite league once, 7 teams at home, 7 away
- The final team from the other league will be a home and home split and follow most of the standard rivalries (see below) that I found online.
For those playing at home, that's a total of 70 games, 35 homes and 35 away. To keep things somewhat steady, I plan on sending invites for 5 games per week, with one week off in the middle (all star break) leading to a 15 week season. While I understand this is a LOT of games, it was the best way I could see to get this done in a reasonable amount of time. **UPDATE** I spent a lot of time trying to figure out a way to do this equitably and ended up just having to randomize the entire schedule with the result that some weeks you'll get a big batch of games while other weeks will be light for you.
Postseason: If all goes well, I'll follow the standard format for deciding playoff teams with the highest record in each division getting a bid along with two wildcards selected from the remaining highest records in each league. The two wildcards will play a single game on the higher seed's map to advance. The Divisional Series will be five games each, 3 on higher seed's map. League Championship series will be 7 games each, 4 on higher seed's map. The World Series will also be a 7 game series with the team with the highest regular season record receiving the 4 game advantage.
When signing up, please include what you would like to use as your home map and settings and which team you would like to represent.
