DARE is an anti-drug campaign used on 5th graders. They have a police officer come in for about an hour once a week and talk to the kids about drugs. Theres also a worksheet and some other things.

In my experience, it has some truth to it, but over exaggerates the dangers.

It spells out how if you smoke pot once, it could ruin your whole life, in an incredibly unlikely chain of events.

I'm not saying drugs are good... but I think the program is a bit too zealous in denouncing recreational drugs.

it honestly has turned more kids ONTO drugs, since its their first exposure to the stuff most of the time, and they usually ignore the guy telling them they're gonna die if they get within ten feet of someone with pot.

I remember quite a few ppl doing drugs for the first time after their first or second DARE sesion, they stopped doing it a few yers ago in New York cus of that.

DARE is the reason that you will see a group of 3 or 4 people in dare shirts smoking and drinking...

Its more ironic than helpful.

It's like any "Anti-" organization, it's just as full as misinformation and useless tactics as any actual info.

Like those McGruff anti-crime, anti-drug comic books that came out back in the early 90s

i remember when i was in dare... everything they told us was subtly making us think that if u know some one who has heard of someone doing drugs, your going to die.

I've watched all the tapes and after-school specials and I have never once run across the peer pressure situations they mention.

I've never been confronted by 3-5 schoolmates who tried to cajole me into smoking a cigarette. Nor have I ever been called uncool because I didn't want to.

Peer pressure is as real as video game inspired violence, the link is only there if you want to see it.

I have, I have! I had 3 friends at the time (Tiffany, ingrid and kasey) try to talk me into smoking.. Funny thing is 2 of them wouldnt smoke and the third tried a pack of cigarettes with me..I only had 1 and she had 7 before we dicided it wasn't for us..hell I didnt even have a full one I broke the cigarette by accident and the smoke got to me!

I am sure that the people who voted "it's a good thing" are thinking that anything is better than nothing...I mean who doesnt want kids to stay off drugs, right? The problem is that basically D.A.R.E. is a feel-good program that help's Mom & Dad sleep better at night but doesnt really do anything. The millions of dollars being spent on D.A.R.E. could be used for much more worthwhile projects that actually help people.

D.A.R.E. is just modern day "Reefer Madness"...and does about as much good.
