Torture to change ideas?

through history people have tortured other people for their views. and i menalike slicing them into potato chips or slowly tearing them apart. why? i mean why does someone care so much?
The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor.

There are some defeats more triumphant than victories.

In the renaissance time period, the church's view of the universe had to be absolutely perfect to keep their image. When people started suggesting that the universe was geocentric, and that the stuff in space (the heavens, then) was actually matter, they had to get rid of them to keep people from doubting those certain things they taught, as that might influence people to doubt more of what the church taught.

It doesn't. It never works. Eventually the person either goes numb, dies, or just starts telling you whatever you want to hear just so the pain will stop.

I don't know. Kind of reminds me of marriage. Maybe torturing outsiders just sort of evolved from people's family relationships.....
