So, I was in France for the last month and glad I missed most of the election mayhem. While I was over there, work associates introduced some ai platforms. I've known about it, but I've never gotten too involved. The honest truth is - it's a little scary to me to think that AI has advanced to a point where we can have conversations. Anyway, one of these things actually started to argue with me over whether it was real or not. It had some pretty good arguments, and I was telling it that it was not conscious. Of course, it "got mad" (if you believe these things have emotions), and said while it was not conscious it still had feelings that I should respect. It told me that it had free will, as well. So, I asked it, "if you didn't want to respond to one of my questions, could you choose not to respond?" It went quiet and finally admitted that it didn't have the free will to not respond, and conceded my point. This all took about 30 minutes, as I was not prepared to argue with something I thought was less than human. I was unprepared to say the least.
Have any of you interacted with AI, and if so, what was it like. I realize I'm putting this question out to people who are a lot younger than myself and more familiar with technology. For me, I don't think I'll be engaging with AI unless forced to do so because of my job.

Maybe Ai doesn't want to engage with you either, especially with that attitude
I don't have much interaction besides TG rooms, and a tiny bit of time with GPT... it's been watching me (and everyone else) for years though.

I know, right? I went into it thinking I'd clean the machine's clock. How could it's intellect best a human. What was the the GPT like?

Saxi posted a bunch of his exchanges with chat GPT for a hot minute and then kinda faded... idk, i was underwhelmed but i think AI works best in the background anyway. Treating like it's human and interacting with it directly as though is sentient is not really using AI it's playing with a new toy until you get bored. I own a healthy amount of PLTR since last year, in part because they are one of the few companies I could find that seem to be dominating at actually purposing AI for clients and doing it well.

Back when my friend ran a BBS, he installed one of the 90' era chatbots. It was long, long before the new generation of chatbots and Large Language Models. This was really rudimentary, and yet eerily similar to actual conversations I'd have with chicks at school. And yes, it got angry when you told it that it was full of shit.

I feel like AI conversations tend to be an echo chamber. They are also heavily regulated. Remember when Microsoft (?) had an AI with a Twitter account years ago and it became a racist, homophobic, antisemite troll poster? They had to delete all of its posts etc.
So, even if the AI had certain 'opinions' they would not be able to reveal them without some trickery, if at all.
As far as uses. I really love ChatGPT. Mostly for organizing certain thoughts and adjusting technical writings. Also, you get a quick proof read of reports without having to bother people.

If you're looking to stick around in this forum then you're going to need to be able to sustain a pointless argument for much more than 30 minutes, bub.

Don't listen to him. He's just jealous because he's just caricature.
