Was just reading a bit of clickbait that Tesla stock has recouped its losses from earlier in the year, and Musk is back up to being worth 270 billion, more than Pepsi or MacDonalds.
Was wondering how people feel about Musk around here. I have mixed feelings myself, and I wonder how other people feel.
On the negative side, he's a conceited, arrogant prick. He's obviously been hanging with some right-wing jerkoffs, including the Big Orangutan. He likes to retweet idiot conspiracy theories (although to his credit, he has deleted some of those once they were proven false.) He's definitely a fiscal hypocrite, criticizing government corporate welfare while his most profitable venture, SpaceX, derives the vast majority of its profits from government handouts.
On the positive side, I think his commitment to space exploration is genuine, and I think he's done more than anyone else to reignite our drive to colonize space. Yes, he's the promoter, not the engineer, but in the grand scheme of things, the promoter is The Man That Counts and the engineers can be replaced. I think he's a genuine visionary, and while Tesla is undoubtedly overvalued, it sure isn't worthless, either. A lot of his projects aren't going well, but that's the nature of pushing forward. (How many bad lightbulbs did Edison make before he made a good one?) I like the way he's spread his seed around to women from different ethnic backgrounds to maximize his chances of making a difference in the human genome. And speaking of making a difference in the genome, I agree with him that having your own son cut his nuts off and terminate an entire branch has got to be a feeling akin to watching him die.
So, yeah. I have mixed feelings, but more on the plus side than the minus side.

Also Libertarians are the real liberals/freethinkers.
What is now usually called 'liberal' is actually closer to Khmer Rouge Left-wing Fascism.
..and yeah, Elon is mostly okay. I do like that he's not afraid to just lay it out straight.

Always had mixed feelings, think he is a great builder of things/project manager. Recent interview where he basically admitted that having a trans kid is what red pilled him into believing 'eradicating the woke mind virus' was more important than his previous life mission of 'saving the planet greenhouse gas emissions/finding a way off this planet cus we are fucked' was enlightening in explaining his image change over the last 4 years.
I think he is often misguided, and clearly a narcissist... but you have to respect his drive and I understand that the best builders of things almost have to have narcissistic traits to push them through the times where everyone else says you are going to fail. So yeah, often don't agree with him but I still respect him and thing he's been a net positive for the planet.

Well, this libertarian moved from California to Texas. Less heavy hand on businesses.

Yes, Elon Musk is a brilliant thinker and engineer.
And yes, lately, he has been more willing to share his right-leaning ideas. I am not sure the purchase of Twitter (that he named X [I think that re-naming is a mistake]) was a great financial move, but I think he did it mostly to project and share more of his ideas closer to his personal beliefs.
He is a visionary and likely narcisstic. As Duk or Mookie said, a visionary is often narcisstic to push his ideas forward in the face of opposition from many persons and perspectives. (Anyone ever read about Steve Jobs? Similar visionary and egotist, imo). Tesla and SpaceX are visionary companies and endeavors.
I have not kept up with Musk and his expressions of his personal and right-leaning views, to be frank.
Musk has done lots for electric cars and space exploration. Net gain by humanity due to Musk. Overall, I agree with Duk and Mookie.

If it wasn't for Starlink, I would have had to stop playing CC all of last year (remote travelling) and for most of this year (our home cable died and they demanded over $1000 to replace a $25 cable).
But, he also won't sell a cybertruck in Australia unless we start driving on the wrong side of the road.

While I’m impress of what he has done, reading his life steps is quiet genuine.
However, putting that much power to one single person could be dangerous. Think about years ago movies that were purely Sci-Fi and seeing Media tycoon owning all around him
Worth to note he owns the most powerful Space program, as well as the biggest solar system (including cars), he owns one of the strongest and highly visited Social Media platform, lastly having the most advance IA business and with correlation to human being and its potential problem solving such as brain illness, organ reconstruction, and more…plasma organ rebuilt will become obsolete before it comes out accessible to us, and by IA control for our body from his company.
All that to say, I’m happy to be alive in those time seeing this technology progress and novelty, just concern it all comes from one man that not only bring the idea, but actually own all that in the palm of his hands.

He has been described as a likely Bond villain, ...even that name!? Aurus Goldfinger has nothing on Dr. Muskelon.
And now for something completely different... Coty vs. Jovan ...!

I hate to agree with PR, but ... yeah, he's a nutcase. A harmless and well-meaning nutcase, but a nutcase nonetheless. (And perhaps a harmless and well-meaning nutcase is better than a malevolent and malign nutcase in control of vast resources like Dick Cheney or Haim Saban.)
He's previously said he self-diagnosed himself with Asperger's syndrome and, while I'm often skeptical of these self-diagnoses, I'm inclined to agree there's something going on with him that - if not that -is something else. I certainly appreciate the way he's using his money to the benefit of causes I support (i.e. he's now giving $47 to every swing state voter), but that doesn't make him any less nutty.
Just the stammering way he talks, his bizarre personal life, the way he goes "all in" on everything and in the most public way possible ... it's all very weird.

Founders Fund CMO Mike Solana says Elon Musk and Tim Cook are steering Trump to declare an all-out trade war against the EU if he wins.
Mike Solana wrote:Tech’s Trump card
Wednesday, less than 24 hours after EU regulators announced they would exempt X from their onerous Digital Markets Act, they interrupted the tech industry’s brief celebration with an escalation of their attack.
X, they announced, would now be pursued under the Digital Services Act for a variety of draconian, speech-related infractions. But — and here’s the crazy part — three totally separate Musk-founded companies could also be fined for X’s “infractions”: SpaceX, Neuralink, and the Boring Company. Obviously, this is just a shakedown, and of a kind we’ve seen for years, which Trump addressed at home.
According to the former president, Tim Cook called him over an $18 billion EU “fine” (again: literally extortion). But unlike Biden, Trump actually seemed to care. This is because he is 1) obsessed with trade, and 2) now has high-profile support in tech. What mean? If he wins the election, get your popcorn. It’s gonna be a trade war.
