It was a great victory because we fought the opression of the Germans and freed the Jews (again).

Bit of both in my opinion. We rid the world of the evil of Facism, but created so many of todays problems in the Middle East by the post-war carve ups.

don't think thats right. we invaded to protect our own country and our own freedom. no one ever learnt about the jews in the british army until we had invaded germany and the red army had liberated some on its way to germany. nothing to do with the jews but i accept your opinion.

Regardless of whether it was intentional or not - the by-product was that the genocide was stopped. Which in retrospect made the war justified.

my view is that no one won the war. sure someone lost and was divided but the other countries lost as well. the USSR was made bigger and stronger than ever and the trinny of the soviets was brought across europe. germany was devided. franch was bankrupted, as was britain and the USA had now made its own worst enemy in the people of the USSR. the cold war began and fear ran across the world.

if anything i say that the soviets were the ones that stopped most of the genocide.

If the USSR was made bigger and stronger, doesn't that mean that the USSR won.
I said victory.

Think you might have spelled this wrong - is it meant to be "progressive rule"?

Dulcet et decorum est ore patria mori
because it sounds like you agree with it.

Doubtful. Japans goal was not an invasion of the USA, they wanted control of China - Japan attacked the US after the oil embargo which forced them to annex the South East Asian colonies to secure resources. The islands in the Pacific where taken as a defensive measure to stop the US fleet from threatening this expansion.

you're right to some extent but not all. conquerers have never been happy with their initial goals for conquering. they will always want more. and if japan had beaten the US navy they would have not only engulfed Asia but also the US. good point though.

Sorry my latins not so good - do you mean "Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori"? - It is sweet and honorable to die for the fatherland: Horace.

You have an arguement that they would probably not have been satisfied with their initial targets - but I would have thought an invasion into British India would have been their main priority. I don't see where they would have the troops for another massive invasion.

It is a sweet and glorious thing to die for one's country:
VERY dependent on the situation - Iraq, you are not dying to save our freedoms, you are dying for the interests of our lawmakers. Thank god some people in the Capitol came to their senses.
