I make my own computers from parts that I buy separately, and usually run off a Linux based OS. Right now, I am on my Toshiba Satellite, running Windows XP.

What do you mean by computer company?

A company that assembles computers, or a company that makes software for computers.

Personally, I like the non-company structure of Linux myself.

like wut vtmarik said, all computer companies do is buy other brand's parts & put them in their own case, so the only reason id say apple over dell is cuz their case looks better...but my favorite company would have 2 be NVIDEA

The difference between computer manufacturing companies (HP, Dell, Sony, Gateway, etc) can be very small- as you said, its aesthetics, but also price, customer support and things of that nature.

However when you get into different operating systems (windows vs mac os or linux) you have some very large differences- much more than 'which case looks better'.
