I work for Creative Labs and we have been testing against Windows Vista for the past six months or so... I will stick with XP as long as humanly possible...

The interface may be snazzy if all you do is surf the web and write term papers, but for anyone in the proaudio or provideo field, it SUCKS!!

I'm not switching, the day Microsoft stops supporting XP is the day I finally give it up and switch to Linux.

I'm happy-ish with win2000 for the same reasons. I want an OS that just does what it has to with the minimum of fuss and leaves more processor time for the music software. XP is allright on faster machines, but my pentium2 struggled with that and Cubase together, so I switched back. From what you say, Vista would be even worse. I just wish I could afford to switch over to Mac.

Well, I love Macs, don't get me wrong, but they are not near as versatile...

And you use Cubase, eh? Have you checked out Cubase 4, yet? Lots of bug fixes from Cubase SX 3...

Given the size of the file, it's probably somewhere in the "waited in line 15 hours...lack of girlfriend" option.

No, I'm still using Cubase VST-5. I just use it for multi track recording & mixing. I do all the EQ, effects & dynamics with outboard gear and then patch it back into the PC for a final mix.

What hardware have you got? What sort of DAS are you using?

I've never bought an OS separate from a new PC in my life, don't think that's going to change this time around.

Next time I upgrade my machine I'm pretty sure I'll be using Vista, though I actually quite like MCE XP and will miss it.

Not loving many of the things I'm hearing about Vista to be honest, I'll be waiting as long as humanly possible before I upgrade. Might even be the PC after next.

Behringer mixer, EQ & effects, Zoom effects, dbx gate/compressors, various guitar fx pedals including a talkbox :D , Akai Z8, Novation & Oberheim synths, Korg groovebox and, of course, a patchbay. The PC is a P2 300MHz, 512Mb ram, 40Gb HD (which is why XP/Vista is out of the question) with M-Audio soundcard & MIDI interface and I use Cubase, Sound Forge & ReBirth.

Hahaha, yeah that 40GB HD won't do you much good... Vista requires a 15GB just for the OS... And you'll want at leats a GB of 533MHz RAM or somewhere in there...

Sounds like a sweet setup, though, dude.

Eh ill get one when i buy a new computer in like 3 years. Don't get me wrong Vista looks nice but there will be bugs and such to get out of it. Also i know how to fix my problems on XP if i get any.

And about that computer above, damn i installed windows xp onto my old comp that had 256 mb ram, pentium 3 processor, 20 gb hard drive. It ran quite smothly and alot better than windows 98 did on it, was surprised.

None of the above.

I get it free (Microsoft Partner/MSDN) and will upgrade my new laptop when they release SP1.

Your current computer seems to have a bug that inserts numbers into written text.
