While it is true that falling short on military commitments to its allies is a despicable cultural trait of these frog and snail-eating people.
That they thought to give even passing consideration to fiscal responsibility does show some small improvement in character....

I guess the French were taking careful notes when they watched the US abandon the Kurds after they'd finished using them as cannon fodder in the fight against ISIS.

Kurdistan is an ethnicity, like the Jews, not a nation. Much of what could/would be Kurdistan is actually in Turkey.
Besides we're talking about France!
They more than half-welched in WWII just to keep Paris looking pretty...
And now a careless immigrant worker burned down their Notre Dame cathedral tourist trap.
There is surely some convoluted irony in all of that.

Kurdistan is a nation, even if it has been crushed and partitioned between Iran, Iraq, and Turkey. Other nations that have been partitioned have risen again (Poland, Italy, Serbia, and even, lol, the Jews of which you speak.) No reason to assume that it will not reclaim its land like those others have.

You're wrong about France, too. People who don't read history like to make fun of the French surrender in WWII. They have no idea what a gruesome bloodbath France went through in WWI. There are still parts of France that can't be developed because there are unidentified corpses under every patch of soil. The trauma of WWI was an unhealed scar that led to the uncharacteristically swift surrender in WWII. Overall, however, France remains the winningest country in history.

ā€¢ Kurdistan is a hypothetical nation that has to deal with the three very real nations you just named.
ā€¢ So you'r egoing to call up Serbia as an example? Why not any of the two dozen other current (or past/future/never) countries ethnic enclaves of the Balkan Peninsula. Last I heard, Balkanization was a bad thing. It certainly is an inconvenience when other nations have secretly want to go in and 'peacekeep'...
ā€¢ And of course, when you wnet on your rise up and reclaim' rant you forgot to mention the Palestinians who may yet reclaim their land too from their truly antisemitic, mostly-Russian, genocidal-aprtheid, wall-wailing, oppressors/colonizers.

So whiny PTSD France couldn't deal with WWII because of WWI, which they supposedly won, I guess it must have been one of those hollow pyrrhic victories... Meanwhile, Germany who lost WWI, had enough gumption to climb back and at least make another powerhouse stab at victory an vengeance in WWII, though of course coming up short thankkjs to the U.S. and Stalin, ...and a little bit the UK, ...and yes, an even teenier-tiner part by France, etc...
Also, yes, they could rebuild on any old battleground they want to, if their willing to do the necessary clean-up and restoration work.
So yeah, I was right about France.

My god,...this quote is a crazy overblown pile of opinions, caveats, afore-mentioned hollow victories (Since you agree that WWI was a traumatizing fake win.), debate team fodder, and geeeky history-major term papers. Neither you nor I (nor anybody else) is going to process this to any thing. approaching full understanding or agreement. So why even quote it.
Frankly, the basic read of France as just another former imperial world power, now desperately caught up in EU-codependence seems to a much more meaningful and honest take of their current situation.

Russia just needs to increase the rate of global warming. Then they can farm the Arctic and let their southern opponents burn and starve.

The frost line is moving north at a steady clip. No need to rush it; within our lifetime there will be no permafrost except on a few Arctic islands. However, if you think it will lead to a Golden Age of subarctic agriculture, think again. Even if the air is warm, the angle of the sun's rays will still suck, and result in poor crop yeilds.

GM the crops. I hear woolly mammoth prime rib is coming back on the menu.....or just do mushrooms.
Gosh, I meant edible food mushrooms. They're supposed to be a superfood.

Biden messed up ANOTHER foreign affairs matter:

How Biden Made a Mess of Ukraine
He treated the conflict as a crisis to be managed, not a war to be won.

Joe Biden filled his administration with geniuses: Rhodes scholars; Ivy League graduates; people with extensive global experience; a national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, whom the president has described as a ā€œonce-in-a-generation intellect.ā€ The president himself has been immersed in foreign policy for half a century. Yet despite all of those impressive rĆ©sumĆ©s, the Biden administration has badly mishandled the war in Ukraine, not only hampering a beleaguered allyā€™s ability to fend off a Russian invasion but also throwing away a remarkable chance to improve Americaā€™s global standing and democratic powersā€™ position in the world.

In defending themselves far more effectively than expected, the Ukrainians showed a capacity to deal Russian President Vladimir Putin a major military defeat, but again and again, Biden and his experts have constrained Ukraineā€™s ability to fight until it was too late. Just recently, only after his party lost the presidential election, Biden finally gave Ukraine the tightly limited ability to use American weapons on military targets in a small part of Russia. The presidentā€™s decision comes after 33 months of war, during which Russia has launched long-range attacks anywhere in Ukraine it wanted, in many cases using Iranian-made weaponry.

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2024/11/biden-ukraine-policy-failures/680834/

I expect that, under pressure from President Trump, Ukraine will negotiate a peace with Russia and Putin. The Ukrainians will have to give up even more land (than Crimea) but this will be needed to secure the peace with its larger aggressive neighbor.

While others talk, the Ukrainians are doing.
https://globalnews.ca/news/10921898/russian-general-killed-moscow-bombing-ukraine-igor-kirillov/
A senior Russian general was killed Tuesday by a bomb hidden in a scooter outside his apartment building in Moscow, a day after Ukraineā€™s security service levelled criminal charges against him. A Ukrainian official said the service carried out the attack.

Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov, the chief of the militaryā€™s nuclear, biological and chemical protection forces, was killed as he left for his office. Kirillovā€™s assistant also died in the attack.

Kirillov, 54, was under sanctions from several countries, including the U.K. and Canada, for his actions in Moscowā€™s war in Ukraine. On Monday, Ukraineā€™s Security Service, or SBU, opened a criminal investigation against him, accusing him of directing the use of banned chemical weapons.

An official with the SBU said the agency was behind the attack. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information, described Kirillov as a ā€œwar criminal and an entirely legitimate target.ā€

A journalist (Fareed Zakaria) that has some respect says that Russia has been severely weakened by its war in Ukraine:

Russia is weaker than you think
The collapse of the Assad regime in Syria should be a reminder of a general truth that often gets obscured in the blizzard of conflicting and contradictory news stories that absorb us day to day: The Westā€™s adversaries are often weaker than we think.

https://fareedzakaria.com/columns/2024/12/13/russia-is-weaker-than-you-think
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/12/13/russia-weak-assad-economy-empire/

I read his column in the local paper; I do not subscribe to the Washington Post.

Fareed Zakaria made several key points; here are a few:
1) the desperation of Putin is shown by his importing troops from North Korea;
2) Putin cannot count on the Russian Economy to replace his lost tanks and other war material;
3) The war is consuming much of the Russian GNP.

1) the desperation of Putin is shown by his importing troops from North Korea; this is an endless supply of cheap soldiers

2) Putin cannot count on the Russian Economy to replace his lost tanks and other war material; you are comparing US standards to Russian

After his audience with President Putin last month, Slovak prime minister Bob Fico has said Slovakia may terminate the supply of electricity to Ukraine. Currently Ukraine imports about 20% of its electricity from Slovakia.

https://www.chinadaily.com.cn/a/202412/ ... d55d5.html

It's time for Ukraine to face reality: it's not emerging from this war in one piece. It's time to surrender.

Trump has terminated all military support to Ukraine!

Meanwhile, Ukrainian lines are buckling across the entire front ...

"I honestly don't think we're going to be able to hold it for much longer," said Chapi, a foreign fighter who spoke to CBC in the Sumy region in northeastern Ukraine, about 15 km from the Russian border. He and other members of his assault unit describe a worsening situation along the Kursk front, where there are not enough troops or weapons to counter a Russian military bolstered by thousands of skilled North Korean soldiers.

While the government maintains that Ukraine's military is made of 800,000, the General Prosecutor's Office has said that more than 100,000 soldiers have been charged under the country's desertion laws since the start of the war in February 2022.

Ukrainian media have reported that an investigation has been launched into the 155th Mechanized Brigade over accusations that 1,700 of the men left even before the unit entered battle.

The soldiers fighting for Ukraine said that they are struck by how small the North Koreans they have seen on the battlefield are compared to the Russians, but say they are clearly skilled and unwavering. He said their movements are more aggressive and their shooting more precise.

Chapi says they use more men to launch assaults, and said he witnessed one group charge forward as a commander screamed at them from behind.

"I don't know what he was screaming, but I can tell you it wasn't like, 'Okay, now come back,'" he said.

"He was like sending them, sending them the whole time. And this was after the North Koreans took casualties."

While Ukraine has captured two men who are now in custody in Kyiv, Google says the North Koreans he has come across refuse to become prisoners of war.

He said he has personally witnessed some choosing to blow themselves up with grenades instead of being captured.

Silly Putin bootlicker.

It will be 3 years since Russia thought they could overrun Kiev in just a couple of days, lol. Watching Putin beg for soldiers and equipment from North Korea is telling.

By the way, the Ukrainians have invaded Russia Kursk area a few months ago and that area is now a large cemetery for Russians and North Koreans.
