The Republicans have their standarrd arsenal of dirty tricks.

They just tried Swift Boating Gov. Walz. This was using using military fellow soldiers to attack his record.

It blew up as lies.

Governor Walz filed to run for office and notified the Guard he’d be leaving it after 24 years of honorable service in February 2005. This is before the earliest he could’ve learned his unit was being deployed to Iraq July 2005, when the orders were sent.

The unit didn’t actually deploy until 2006. Walz served in 2003 and 2004 in Operation Enduring Freedom—which included Afghanistan *and* the Global War on Terror.

Walz was a sharpshooter and heavy-weapons (field artillery) specialist—so serving abroad in the Global War on Terror in that capacity absolutely meant handling deadly weapons in a time of war (a war the GOP declared under President Bush). So attacks on his service are vile.

A political party that previously swiftboated war hero John Kerry and is running a draft dodger for POTUS alongside a man who spent 10% of his military service at a desk job in Iraq should be *universally denounced*—including by media—for slandering 24-year military veteran Tim Walz.

New VP designate JD Vance is leading the attacks. After first attacking both Democrats as 'California liberals' when JD Vance lived for years in San Francisco. Walz has never been to California.

As a VFW member, I'd say if Walz did retire early to avoid another deployment to a shitty theater of war, good on him. Would actually show a level of intelligence.

He retired before his unit’s deployment to Iraq
Walz served a total of 24 years in various units and jobs in the Army National Guard. But it’s his retirement in 2005 that’s prompting criticism from some Republicans who are suggesting he abandoned his team to pursue a campaign for Congress.

As he ramped up for a congressional bid in 2005, Walz’s campaign in March issued a statement saying he still planned to run despite a possible mobilization of Minnesota National Guard soldiers to Iraq. According to the Guard, Walz retired from service in May of that year.

There is no evidence that Walz timed his departure with the intent of avoiding deployment. But the fact remains that he left ahead of his unit’s departure

Walz didn’t serve in a combat zone
Earlier this week Harris’ campaign circulated on X a 2018 clip of Walz speaking out against gun violence, and saying, “We can make sure that those weapons of war, that I carried in war, is the only place where those weapons are at.” That comment suggests that Walz portrayed himself as someone who spent time in a combat zone.

What about his rank?
Harris’ campaign has referred to Walz as a “retired Command Sergeant Major,” one of the top ranks for an enlisted soldier. He did in fact achieve that rank, but personnel files show he was reduced in rank months after retiring. That left him as a master sergeant for benefits purposes.

Minnesota National Guard officials have said that Walz retired before completing coursework at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, along with other requirements associated with his promotion.

“What was this weapon that you carried into war, given that you abandoned your unit right before they went to Iraq, and he has not spent a day in a combat zone? What bothers me about Tim Walz is the stolen valor garbage," Vance said.

Since Walz first ran for Congress and then governor, he’s faced attacks around the timing of his retirement. Vance’s accusation echoes one made by two fellow high-ranking sergeants from the Minnesota Guard who publicly attacked Walz in 2018, in a paid endorsement letter to the editor of the West Central Tribune. They slammed Walz for “conveniently retiring a year before his battalion was deployed to Iraq.”

According to the Minnesota National Guard, Walz retired in May 2005, two months before his unit, the 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery received an alert order for mobilization to Iraq in July 2005. It’s likely that Walz put in for retirement months before that May. It’s also clear that guardsmen anticipated deployment to Iraq months before July.

“We can make sure that those weapons of war, that I carried in war, is the only place where those weapons are at,” Walz said in the video.

That was all Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance needed. (...)

It seems to me that Walz is lying and so is the Kamala-Walz campaign, to cover his LIES. If not outright lies, Walz's comments are MISLEADING, at BEST. He has been CALLED out for making such misleading, or even INCORRECT statements, AKA LIES.

At his news conference Thursday, the former president apparently invented the sort of tale for which he once excoriated a hated member

Donald Trump received effusive praise from allies and sympathizers alike for his willingness to hold an off-the-cuff news conference Thursday in a different part of his house. Here’s a guy who can simply invite in reporters and answer questions for an hour without preparation; why can’t Vice President Kamala Harris do the same?

One reason, of course, is that Trump is not now and has not ever been terribly worried about the product of his riffing. Sure, he almost invariably gets himself into trouble by disgorging false claims or toxic disparagements, but it’s easy enough to bury those with more disgorgement. It is the way; it has always been the way.

There were so many ĺies at that Mar-a-Lago news conference his staff has been making calls about what to do when their candidate has dementia.

Former National Security Advisor John Bolton’s response to Donald Trump’s rambling press conference on Thursday could be summarized in one sentence: “Trump can’t tell the difference between what’s true and what’s false.”

Trump falsely stated Democrats violated the Constitution by replacing Biden.

He falsely stated his Jan 6th crowd was bigger than MLKs. Aeriel photographs show it was less than a quarter of the size.

He grossly inflated the migrant crossings and falsely said Kamala was in charge of the border. It has been pointed out often that is a myth, she was responsible for negotiating with Latin America countries for new policies to reduce migrants leaving.

He continued false claims about election fraud, setting up the plans for local Republican officials to not certify election results.

Trump told an unhinged Whopper of a story about nearly dying in a helicopter crash with Willie Brown, Kamala Harris's former mentor and lover. He must have confused the Black Willie Brown with the former governor of California, the White Jerry Brown. Except their helicopter didn't almost crash, and nobody talked about Kamala Harris in the helicopter. They could have talked about Trump's donation to Kamala's campaign he had made then, but the story was a complete fabrication except that Trump took a safe helicopter ride in California with a Mr. Brown. Jerry Brown did say Trump kept talking about crashing, but the ride was fine.

Mr. Trump’s visit to the burned forest with then-Governor Brown and Mr. Newsom did generate headlines, but not because of anything that occurred on their helicopter ride. Rather, it was because, during a news conference after landing at the scene, Mr. Trump, 78, attributed the wildfire to too many fallen, dead tree branches and said the answer to solving California’s wildfire crisis was to rake the forest floors.

“It was back when we were making raking the forest great again,” Mr. Newsom said.

I am sure there were more lies in that dementia press conference but this show why is staff is "concerned".
