Im a fan of long tourneys too. If its expected to be more than a year, it should simply be specified in the sign up info.
I'm thinking there might have been a lot of tournaments abandoned that were overly long and complex and the TO disappeared/got tired. Even if this is the case, I wouldn't have a blanket rule that no tournaments can be over one year. Maybe you can become a senior TO or something. Prove, like HA certainly has, that you are willing to stick around for a while and run some long tournaments.
Of course, I don't know what the actual rule is right now, and perhaps they would allow someone like HA to run another one of these tournaments. I know he has been planning on other big tournies as he has said in this forum. HA, care to weigh in when you get back from vacation?
