Example: Player XYZ wins 3 games. He/she then plays 3 more. Game 4 is joined, then game 5 after this. However Game 5 is then lost while the Game 4 is still ongoing. Game 4 is then won and later Game number 6 is joined and won.
Would that make for a winning streak of 3 and an open-ended/not finished winning streak of 2, or would that be a winning streak of 4 and an open-ended winning streak of 1?
As I said, it will only matter in a limited amount of situations, but it could end up having an impact on streaks.
It will not matter when 4, 5, and 6 are joined. It just matters the sequence of game numbers. That is the easiest way to determine the streak and is how I will do it. Basically anyone can search just their name and my tourney and come up with their games in order by number. So if they joined 800001 and won then *3 and lost--then *2 and won they would have a two game win streak because they won *1 and *2
Ah. Yeah, that makes sense, of course. Game number then, not to worry about beginnings or ends. We shall leave that for the Wheel of Time
