Captain+2008 Winter Doubles League [WINNER: Forefall, Mozes]
Posted: Wed Dec 05, 2007 3:50 pm
Continuing my Captain+ series. Planning to start this one in the beginning of January. I will be going away for 2 weeks at the end of February, so we might suspend the games for that time.
League Format:
1. Every game is 4 players doubles.
2. There will be 8 groups of 6 pairs in round 1.
3. There will be 4 groups of 6 pairs in round 2.
4. There will be 2 groups of 6 pairs in round 3.
5. There will be 1 group of 6 pairs in finals.
6. Whoever gets most points at the end of finals is declared a winner.
7. Groups will be assigned by previous round results and team rating. (First team will play with last).
8. In every round you will play 2 games against each other team. One game will be chained escalating and other game will be chained no cards.
9. In total there will be 5 games in a set. In total there will be 6 sets per round.
10. Top 3 team from each group will proceed to the next round.
Games Settings:
1. Every game will be 4 players doubles, sequential, casual, chained. With alternating escalating and no cards.
2. I will open 2 new sets of games every forth/fifth day.
3. Any tie-breaker game required will be on Classic, escalating, chained.
4. Maps will be assigned from the following pool of maps:
Africa, Alexander's Empire, Ancient Greece, Arctic, Asia, Australia, BeNeLux, Brazil, Brazil, British Isles, Cairns Coral Coast, Canada, Classic, Caribbean Islands, CCU, Discworld, Europe, Extreme Global Warming, France, Germany, Great Lakes, Hong Kong, Indochina, Ireland, Italy, King of the Mountains, Middle Earth, Middle East, Mongol Empire, Montreal, North America, Philippines, Portugal, San Francisco, Siege, Tamriel, USA, WWII Eastern Front.
Scoring and avoiding stalemates:
1. For winning the game you will get 1 MP (Match Point).
2. Every game must finish by the end of round 35.
3. If a game is not finished by beginning round 36 then every team will get -1 (minus one) MP.
4. Those rules will be applied regardless of how many armies/countries you have left.
Points Transfer
1. The 50% of points difference will be transfered to the next round.
Example: Let say you got 8 MP in your group. And the lowest qualifying team amongst all groups got 5 MP. So you get 1.5=(8-5)*50% MP transfered to the next round.
Tie-breakers
1. In the case of a two way tie, 3 extra tie-breaker game will be played.
2. In the case of a three way tie, we will play 3 tie-breaker games in total. Each team will play against the other team once. If 3 tie-breaker games are not enough, I will review how each team played against each other. If that won't established the winner, then team with the highest rating will proceed.
3. In the case of a four way tie, we will play 6 tie-braker games in total. Each team will play against the other team once. If 6 tie-braker games are not enough, I will review how each team played against each other. If that won't established the winner, then team with the highest rating will proceed.
4. No MP are allocated for tie-breaker games.
5. Same Tie-breaker rules are applied at the end of the finals too.
No shows, forfeiting and substitutions
1. Every team must join its games within 2 day period, since they were posted, unless advanced warning was provided. Upon expire of this period, team must provide a substitution. If substitution is not provided, then the team will forfeit their games and will be excluded from the tournament.
2. If team is excluded from the tournament when I will try to provide a substitution team, which will inherit all the MP from the excluded team.
3. If I wont be able to provide a substitution team, then opponents of the excluded team will get a bonus for every game against the drop-outs. The bonus is equal to greater of the following:
a) 0.6 MP
b) your team round average
4. A drop-off will be prohibited entry into my future tournaments. Unless there is a really good reason for the drop-off to happen.
Requirements and Sign-up procedures:
1. 2000+ points for each team member.
2. I want to keep the tournament to strong teams only. So I would like the team members to play together at least 25 doubles games before joining this tournament. If you don't qualify because of this rule, please let me know, and I will use my own discretion.
3. I can deny or allow entrance of the particular team at my own discretion.
4. To sign up post your team members here.
5. Premium membership is required for the whole duration of the tournament.
6. Once you are signed up, you don't have to maintain 2000+ rating.
Questions and answers
Q. I have another player on the ignore list.
A. If you happen to be in the same group as he is, then you would need to take him off the ignore list, so they can join the games. After that you can put them back on the ignore list right after they join the game.
Q. Also how are maps assigned - is there a strict rotation?
A. We will have one single map per set of games, which will be randomly selected from the pool of maps. So not every map from the pool will be played. But everyone in a group will play the same set of maps.
Q. I am away for that week - should I get my account sitter to join the games for that week or wait until I get back?
A. Ideally I would like an account sitter to join those games. This is just because we have very busy schedule going, 2 new games each week. If we delay the joining for a week, the schedule will be skewed and it will be a pain for me.
Q. since it's a captain+ tourney i was curious why are there teams with less than 4000 points? i have nothing against this but since i see captains or majors on the waiting list i wonder how come those weren't chosen
A. Those people had 2000 points when they signed up. Between their sign up and the time when tournament has started their rating went down.
There is no way I can expect everyone to be above 2000 for the whole duration of the tournament, otherwise i would need to disqualify half of the players.
Think about 2000+ more like entry requirement, which kind of shows your ability. The reason why 2000+ rule is in place is to provide the strong competition. And not to limit your potential rating loses.
