(Double Elimination 1v1)
WINNER: DBandit70
Welcome to the 24 player 1vs1 double elimination tournament!
24 people = 8 byes in Round 1
1 will be reserved for my previous tourney champion (snakedoctor), 2 of which will go to the 2 highest ranked players entered, then next 5 will be awarded for answering the question that I have prepared. If you are in the 5 that answered correctly and also top 2 score, you will be seeded for your score (it will be higher seed than correct answer)
Freemiums and Premiums welcome (Will require 1 game slot open per round)
FORMAT:
The tournament will include 24 players who will battle in a double elimination bracket. The lowest ranked player will face the highest ranked player for each round of the tournament (See SEEDING below). Winner of each round moves on and is re-seeded to face the correct person next round once again based on initial rank.
Maps for the tournament are as follows:
All Winners Bracket games at Midgard
All Losers bracket games at Siege!
Settings for the entire tournament are:
Sequential, Escalating, Ulimited, FOG.
QUESTION:
A simply supported steel beam (pinned on one end and roller on the other) is loaded with a point load at midspan of 25,000 pounds. The beam is 30 feet long, therefore the load is at 15 feet. The beam is a W27x84.
A=24.8 in^2
I= 2850 in^4
Z= 244 in^3
50 ksi yield steel
modulus = 29000 ksi
in = inch
ksi= kips per square inch
kip = 1000 lb
25,000 lbs = 25 kips
A= cross sectional area
I= moment of inertia
Z= plastic section modulus (shouldn't be needed but included for nerds like me)
What is the deflection of the beam for a linear elastic analysis? (In inches)
I used a free program called MASTAN.
Whether you work this for yourself or not, here is a hint: the deflection is between 0.211 and 0.332 inches.
That means you simply guess a number between those two and it’s a lottery for a bye! Or work it out and guarantee a bye. If a tie occurs for the top 5 answers, Copiers Beware! The first to post their answer will determine who gets a bye. The answer will be revealed once the tournament is full. Feel free to pm or post questions about the problem if they are not clear to you.
**Remember that you can do nothing in relation to the question, guess a number between 0.211 and 0.332 and you will have a chance at a bye.**
ANSWER: 0.296 inches
SIGN UPS:
Simply post your name, score, and possible answer (any number between 0.211 and 0.332, please post your answer to 3 decimal places 0.000) in this thread to join. When I add you to the tourney, if you have not posted your score and your answer, I will check your score and that will be your score for the tournament. You will have until the tournament is full to post an answer. Once added, that will be your score and answer to decide the seeding of the tournament.
GAMES:
After the tournament is full, I will pm the player seeding and then the game #'s to each of you. You will have 48 hours to join the game after I send the game # to you or you will auto-forfeit your game. 48 hours is easy to join up, snooze you lose, no exceptions. Please remove foes if you are to play them, keeping someone a foe will not count for the 48 hour forfeit.
PLAYERS:: In order of signing up for the tourney, after answer is revealed seeds will be given.
