Conqueror of Siam [Winner: thrambone]
Posted: Mon May 04, 2009 4:53 am
Who will encrust his crown with the gleaming Jewel of Asia? Will the foreign devils prevail against the local despots? And who among the victorious faction will emerge from the power struggle as the undisputed Conqueror of Siam?
Background: At the end of the 19th century, the spheres of influence of the British and French colonies in Southeast Asia intersected at Siam. The French controlled Vietnam and Cambodia, while the British had encorporated Burma into British India. The real story is that King Rama V was able to preserve the sovereignty of most of Siam by ceding strategically less important areas to both powers in order to preserve the whole. (also the French decided it would be worth giving up ambitions on the rest of Thailand in order to gain Britain as an ally against Germany, but nobody talks about that reason in Siam) But how will the current defenders of Siam measure up to this great King?
OVERVIEW
There are three rounds and you need to pass certain requirements to progress. All games in tournie are sequential. Some are standard escalating, some are doubs/quads no spoils. We won't play more than two at the same time to give freemiums a chance. This is a low game-commitment tournie: 6 games in round one, 7 games in round two, 9 games in round three. For the sake of expedition, future games will be cancelled if the outcome of a round becomes certain.

Each bracket plays a game on Asia, World 2.0, Eastern Hemisphere and an additional 3 maps:
Tiebreaker settled by three additional standard esc games on the faction specific maps. 2nd tiebreaker is one game sudden death, Bamboo Jack.
Round 2 - SIAM (4 players) vs COLONIAL POWERS (4 players)
This round consists of 9 games total where Siam is represented by the top two from Bangkok and Isaan and Colonial Powers are represented by the top two from French Indochina and British India. Every player of the side that wins the most advances to the next round.

5 Games: quads, no spoils, chained, no fog
Siam vs Colonial Powers at:
Round 3 - CONQUEROR OF SIAM (played by the 4 winners of Round 2)
The four players representing the winning side battle it out on the same maps and settings as first round (Colonials play on their combined 5 unique specialty maps plus Asia). Tiebreaker settled by best of 4 games in Poker Club (escalating if 3-way tie, no spoils if head-to-head). 2nd tiebreaker is no spoils Bamboo Jack grudge match (it will be painful but you'll feel good if you win).
