The Five Elements [Winner: EnricoPalazzo]

PREMIUM IS REQUIRED.

Greetings. Welcome to my first tournament.

Inspired by: The 3456 League. The problem with that tournament was this: you didn't get to play on your home map against the various possible permutations of opponents. I addressed this by reducing the division size to 5.

Format:
5 Players per division, 5 divisions. Top player by final score in each division advances to the finals. In the finals, the format and scoring will repeat.

All Games are Sequential. NO SPOILS is not permitted, in the interest of keeping the tournament moving. Yes, I'm not happy about doing this, I like the setting. But it's that, or vetting every possible combination of map and settings as they're requested.
When you sign up, I need the following: "Home Map", and settings for spoils, fortifications, and fog of war.

In each division, there will be played:

10 5-player games, two on each home map.
20 4-player games (5 sets of 4 players, one game on each home map per set) (16 per player)
30 3-player games (10 sets of 3 players, one game on each home map per set) (18 per player)

60 games per round, 44 per player.

I currently plan to send them out over 10 'starts', so as not to overload any single player unduly. The starts will include a spread of all the game assortments, and will be weekly to begin. It could also pile up on someone's game load if the games don't move. Should games not be finishing, I will adjust the frequency.

Scoring:

5 player games: 4 for the winner, then 3, 2, 1, 0 in reverse order of elimination. 40 points possible.
(i.e., 0 points to the first player eliminated, 1 for the second eliminated, 2 for the third out, 3 for the last player out, and 4 for the winner)
4 player games: 3 for the winner, then 2, 1, 0 in reverse order of elimination. 48 points possible.
3 player games: 2 for the winner, then 1, 0 in reverse order of elimination. 36 points possible.

25 players accepted, seeking up to 5 reserves. I will only be participating as a reserve player, if needed.

Random.org will be used to sort players into their divisions, and assign them positions within divisions.

Questions will be gleefully accepted.

The MS Excel Scoresheet is current, here.

FOR COMPARISON: Each round, a player is in: 1 5-player, and either of: 2 4-player and 1 3-player =or= 1 4-player and 3 3-player games. So it's possible to earn 12 or 13 points a round, with a total of 31 points for all players in one round.

show: Preliminary Round Results

Finals w 1-10: COMPLETE

Code: Select all
FINALS
jgazaille         48
EnricoPalazzo     73
Hacx5nine         62
Dimnjacarstef     60
Wolfpack0530      67

Scores updated: 23 OCT 2009, 1500 Z

As of 1 Sept 09, EnricoPalazzo is the winner, as no player can amass enough points to pass his position.

...and that's a wrap. As of 23 OCT (actually, looks like you wrapped up back on the 19th), this tournament is DONE.
Congratulations and thanks again to all players!

All good, EXCEPT no spoils. That's not an option, if you'll check the rules again. Sorry. I like the option myself, but I'd like to make sure this keeps moving, so I've disallowed that choice. I'll enter you for now, with a blank there. let me know if it's a deal-breaker for you.

Making good progress, about a third of the way full now.

Thanks, Boss_oss_ss... I've been thinking about this for a while, reading tournament posts and trying to figure out how the best ones were set up. The posts, I mean, not the tournaments. ;)

cookie0117, I arbitrarily assigned you Classic Shapes. If you'd prefer C.Art, just let me know.

Question: Do you get 4, 3, 2, 1 or 0 points according to when in the game you were eliminated (if at all)?

Yes, I'll reread and clarify that. But in a 5 player game, the winner gets 4 points. First eliminated 0, second out 1, and so on.
