RULES POST:

Welcome to the 2010 NHL playoffs tournament…

This tournament will be following this year’s NHL playoffs in a best-of-7 format for each round. Win four games and advance, lose the series and you are eliminated.

Each NHL team will be represented by two (2) players — one sniper and one goaltender. Sign up as a pair to ensure your spot, but you can also sign up individually and hope for another single to join forces.

Play: 1 vs. 1
Open: freebies welcome, but I ask that you are able to complete 2 slots open.

Each game is broken into five maps 3 for the snipers and 2 for the goalies. Goal scoring is based on the combination of formulas on the lower link...this chart also includes the maps in play for each position.

Here’s a breakdown of the two positions.

• SNIPER — These players will compete on three maps (representing each of the three hockey periods) to come up with a total amount of shots taken during the game. Winning quickly gives you more shots and limits your opponents’ attempts. That gap narrows the longer a map is in play.

Shots are determined by the number of armies gained during the game with a 1-army bonus awarded every time an “owned” card is turned in. Also, the winning player gets a bonus shot added to his total.

These maps also determine the number of power plays that a team gets per game. One power play is awarded every time a rainbow card set is turned in.

• GOALTENDERS — These players will face-off on two maps (one for save % and another for penalty kill). The winning player will get a better percentage — the quicker the win, the better the percentage.

Also, goaltenders can give a minor boost to the offense by earning one additional “Power Play” chance for his team if he sweeps both maps.

If the score is tied at the end of regulation (the 5 maps), we will go into overtime. Two maps will be sent out of 1 vs. 1 battles between sniper and goalie…if a team sweeps both maps they score the overtime goal for the win. If the maps are split, then we stick with this format for a second overtime. If we have another split, the third overtime will go to a 2 vs. 2 doubles game with the winner getting the go-ahead goal.

Overtime #1: 2 maps (1 v. 1) Canada….sweep to get the winning goal
Overtime #2: 2 maps (1 v. 1) Soviet Union…sweep to get the winning goal
Overtime #3: Doubles showdown on Charleston

Sample game

EXPLANATION:
Montreal's sniper -- Classic wins in 7 rounds (41 armies + 4 owned) = 19 shots
Greenland wins in 10 rounds (49 armies + 4 owned) = 11 shots
BeNeLux loses in 5 rounds (13 armies) = 4 shots
Turned in three rainbow sets over all maps = 3 power plays

Washington's sniper -- Classic loses in 7 rounds (26 armies) = 5 shots
Greenland loses in 10 rounds (31 armies) = 6 shots
BeNeLux wins in 5 rounds (28 armies + 1 owned) = 18 shots
Turned in two rainbow sets over all maps = 2 power plays

Montreal's goaltender -- Wins Montreal map in 9 rounds -- .945 save %
Loses San Fran in 11 rounds -- .500 power play kill

Washington's goaltender -- Loses Montreal map in 9 rounds -- .855 save %
Wins San Fran in 11 rounds -- .700 power play kill

Scoring:
Montreal 34 shots X .855 = 4.93 (5 goals)
Montreal 3 power plays X .300 = 1/3 (1 power play goal)
Montreal scores 6 total goals.

Washington 29 shots X .945 = 1.60 (2 goals)
Washington 2 power plays X .500 = 1/2 (1 power play goal)
Washington scores 3 total goals

*numbers are rounded up to the next whole number in all formulas
The boxscore lists a higher number of shots because I'm figuring 2 shots per power play chance.
The boxscore save % reflects the actual number after the game has been scored.
_____________________________________________________________________

I’ll be trying to update scoreboards at least every 48 hours, so you’ll have a good idea where you stand as each round goes.

• The winner of the championship series at the end is of course the winner of this Conquer Club tourney.

Good luck to all and let’s have some fun with it, flex

Was waiting to get confirmation from my pal Mass Miracle, but he and I shall ally on the New Jersey Devils (as long as they're not taken yet). I'll get back to you on who's the goalie and who's the sniper.
