CONGRATULATIONS!

esiemer is the first World Cup 1.0 Champion!

Almost exactly a month after it started, we have crowned a champion! esiemer battled through 3 stages of 4 maps each to squeak out the win by winning the final map. A second place finish in the map would not have done it! He needed to win the map and did so!

All but 1 of the maps have been completed, but the playoffs are ready to start! Map invites have been given out and players are now able to join!

Group A has finished 2 maps with a battle brewing! After finishing 3rd in Netherlands, jrh_cardinal won Montreal and put himself right back into the mix. Unfortunately for him, he was knocked out first in the Classic Map. He currently has 8 points and leads his group, but has finished 1 more map then everyone else. He will need a 2nd place finish or better in the final map to have a chance at advancing!
Group D saw a reversal of ranks.. with the 2 guys with under 1100 rankings both finishing better then the 2 guys with better then 1300 (Shoop76 with 2500+)

3 Stages of play! - Group Stage, Playoffs, Championship

UPDATED Information: Points System explained (with example)

GROUP STAGE: 4 players per group (4 groups of 4) | Each group plays 4 maps simultaneously. Each map is worth points based on how you finish the map.
example:
Classic Map - Player A is the first to be eliminated and receives 1 point. Player C is second to be eliminated and receives 2 points. Player B is 3rd to be eliminated and receives 3 points. The winner, Player D receives 5 points (1 point bonus for the win)
Montreal Map - Player C wins = 5 pts | Player D = 3 points | Player A = 2 pts | Player B = 1 pts
Netherlands Map - Player A wins = 5 pts | Player D = 3 pts | Player C = 2 pts | Player B = 1 pts
Puget Sound Map - Player C wins = 5 pts | Player B = 3 pts | Player D = 2 pts | Player A = 1 pts

Based on the points from each map, the Group would finish as follows:

Player A = 9 points
Player B = 8 points
Player C = 14 points
Player D = 13 points

Player C wins the Group and Player D finishes 2nd place and both advance to the Playoff Stage!

The Playoff Stage and Championship Stage both use the same points system to determine the overall group winner!

Absolutely NO prizes given... unless you count Conquer Club Pride as a prize?

2. CC pride is absolutely a prize, plus they get a trophy automatically (so do you for running th tourney)
3. if you are going to play, which it seems that you are, (or even if you aren't going to play) you're going to want to explain this "points system", if people don't understand it, I guarantee there will be problems

Yes.. I will need to explain the Points.. I know the first rule when running a tournament is to make sure that your format and rules are 'idiot proof'... you are absolutely right.. I am sure someone will have questions.

The points work as the following:

In each group.. there are 4 players.. those 4 players will play in 4 maps (at same time) against each other.

The winner of each map will get 5 points, 2nd will get 3 pts, 3rd will get 2 pts, 4th will get 1 point.

Once all 4 maps for that group has been completed, the total points scored by each player will determine which 2 players will advance to the playoff stage.

The same formula will be used to determine the next winners to advance to the finals.


Does that clear any of that up?

PS you did a good job explaining the points system, etc., but most people don't read past the first post (if they even read that) so I suggest making all updates like that in the first post, then just say "updated" or something like that on th real thread
