The theme for my tournaments are the major journeys of Discovery and Exploration and my first journey will mirror the route taken by Marco Polo who lived from 1254 to 1324. He was a trader, so the winner of the tournament will be the player who amasses the most points from their journey. These points will be the actual points gained from winning matches and players can choose their "home" route from two possible routes (maps) in each of the first four rounds.
The number of players will be a minimum of 16, but I will take more in multiples of 2 if there is sufficient interest shown over the next week or so. All games will be head-to-head Standard (apart from the last which is Terminator), played with the following settings: Automatic; Sequential, Flat Rate, Chained; Fog and not Speed! Players can choose which home map they prefer from two possible maps at each round; if they have no preference, the first, default map will be used.
Only two games will be initiated at each round, so Freebies can join provided that they keep two slots open. You must have less than 2,000 points to join this tournament and enter within 48 hours of me sending out invitations. Matchups will be determined randomly.

Marco Polo started his journey from his home town of Venice, so round 1 will be two games played on your and your opponent’s choice of home map - from either “Italy” (default) or “Unification Italy”.
He then journeyed through Accra to Ormuz, so the second round will be two games played on either “Middle East” (default) or “Indian Empire”.
The route then took him to Beijing, so the third round will be two games played on either “Asia” (default) or “Mongol Empire”.
His return journey was by sea to Ormuz and thence to Constantinople, so Round four will be two games played on either “Land and Sea” (default) or “High Seas”.
Since Marco was a trader or merchant, the last stage of the tournament will be for the four persons with the highest points totals from the previous rounds to see who can amass more points as merchants by playing a final game of quads on “Age of Merchants” as a terminator game. Their points from this game will be added to their previous points totals to determine the winner.
Reserves will “inherit” the points total from the player they replace and if, for any reason, a bye has to be awarded in any game, that player will gain average points of the other winners who played that same round.
So add your name below and your preferred home map:
“Italy” or “Unification Italy” “Middle East” or “Indian Empire” “Asia” or “Mongol Empire” “Land and Sea” or “High Seas”.
If you don’t choose one, the first map will be used as a default.
Good Luck!
Dave
P.S. This happy fellow (obviously not winning at CC when this portrait was made) is of Marco – not me.......
