This is a Tournament Players Association (TPA) event, and is governed by its rules, guidelines, and judgments. All are welcome to join and participate in the association. You need do nothing more than join one or more of the TPA events that will be announced each Monday. Check back on the TPA scoreboard in the Tournaments--> General Info forum to see how you're doing. Sonic's Hoe-Down show: intro
Take your random partners by the hands; it's time for a hoe-down, CC-style. I'm looking for 80 CCers, who will be divided into Quads teams by random.org for each round.
show: Rounds 1-3
Random.org will select your random partners for you 3 times at the start. The first 3 rounds will overlap; so freemiums will need 3 slots immediately, but this will reduce to a single slot as the tournament progresses Each player gets 3 lives at the start of the tourney (so this is triple elimination). For each game where you are on the losing dance-quad, you lose one life. Once the first 3 rounds have been played out, all those with two left feet who have lost 3 lives will move to the side of the metaphorical dancehall and will take no further part. It is likely that approximately 10 players will exit after round 3.
show: Rounds 4-6
Round 4 will not commence until the first 3 rounds are complete. Again random.org will select the teams. If the number of players remaining cannot be divided by 8, then the remaining players at the foot of the randomised list will sit out the following round. You cannot sit out two consecutive rounds. e.g. All players who sat out Round 4 will automatically go to top of the draw for Round 5, while only those who played in Round 4 are randomised. EDIT - Once a player has sat out for a round, he cannot sit out again at all (unless we reach a point where everyone has sat out one game) This will continue until the end of Round 6, by which time there will probably be 30 or so competitors left on the floor.
show: Rounds 7 onwards
From round 7 we will switch to randomised dubs (2v2). Again random.org will select the teams. If the number of players remaining cannot be divided by 4, then the remaining players at the foot of the randomised list will sit out the following round. Again, no player will sit out two consecutive rounds. EDIT - once a player has sat out for a round, he cannot sit out again at all (unless we reach a point where everyone has sat out one game) This will continue until there are fewer than 4 players with any lives remaining. 3-way (1v1v1) matches or 1v1 matches will then be used until only one player has any lives remaining. That player will be the hoe-down champion.
show: Settings
Maps are Random. Settings are: Quads, Automatic, Sequential, Escalating, Chained, Sunny. Escalating spoils should help avoid long games; even if the random map is Hive it normally finishes in 10 rounds. However, if any game goes beyond Round 20 without a winner, no players in that game will lose a life.
show: TPA Scoring
This is a tourney of attrition. At the point where you exit the tourney, your TPA points will be (80 minus the number of players still in) divide by 80 and multiply by 3. So if you exit while 36 players are still left in, points would be (80-36)/80 x 3 = 1.65.
