In an effort to better the company, Initech is always looking toward innovation. As such, the 24th edition is going to delve into brand new territory for the series. This tournament will be the first ever bracket-type tournament and the first to employ a double elimination system. I present... Initech XXIV: Micro Mania!
OVERVIEW
64-player, bracket-style, double-elimination tournament, played on a total of 6 maps. A minimum of 43 games will be played. Each player is guaranteed 2 games. All games will be 4-player in nature until the final rounds.
ELIGIBLE PLAYERS
Premium and freemium (a first for Initech!). But the requirement of having 20 minimum games completed is still in effect. Cannot afford deadbeats.
RULES
All games will be sequential, standard, chained, flat rate, foggy. The only exception to this rule will be the best-of-three (if necessary) championship series, which is detailed below.
MAPS
Cyprus, Central America, Australia, Luxembourg, Madagascar, Greenland
ROUNDS
There will be an opening round for all players, followed by a winnersā bracket and a losersā bracket. Each round is described in detail below:
Opening Round
64 players will play sixteen 4-player games on the Luxembourg map. The 16 winners advance to the winnersā bracket. The 48 losers advance to the losersā bracket.
Winners Bracket Round 1
16 players will play four 4-player games on the Greenland map. The 4 winners advance to the second round of the winnersā bracket. The 12 losers advance to the second round of the losersā bracket.
Losers Bracket Round 1
48 players will play twelve 4-player games on the Central America map. The 12 winners advance to the second round of the losersā bracket. All other players are eliminated.
Winners Bracket Round 2
4 players will play a 4-player game on the Australia map. The winner advances to the championship round. The 3 losers advance to the third round of the losersā bracket.
Losers Bracket Round 2
24 players will play six 4-player games on the Madagascar map. The 6 winners advance to the third round of the losersā bracket. All other players are eliminated.
Losers Bracket Round 3
9 players will play three 3-player games on the Cyprus map. The 3 winners advance to the championship round. All other players are eliminated.
Championship Round 1
The 4 players will player a single 4-player game on a tournament map chosen by the undefeated player who advanced from the winners' bracket. If the undefeated player wins this match, that player is tournament champion. If any other player wins the map, that winning player advances to Championship Round 2 with the previously undefeated player.
Championship Round 2
If necessary, a best-of-three head-to-head series will be played to determine the tournament champion. The three matches will be played on the Luxembourg, Greenland and Madagascar maps. All tournament settings apply except there will be NO SPOILS. The series winner is tournament champion.
SEEDING
An effort will be made to seed the opening round by separating the top 16 players at the close of registration into the 16 different matches. The rest of the opening round will be unseeded. In principle, subsequent rounds will follow the same procedure but due to the fact that different games conclude at different times, no guarantees can be made.
TIEBREAKERS
In the unlikely (given the small size of the maps used) event that a match becomes hopelessly deadlocked, the tournament organizer will work with the players involved to find an equitable tiebreaker if all remaining players agree that no solution is possible. However, no tiebreakers will be considered prior to Round 30 on any map.
ALTERNATES
The tournament will accept 2 alternates due to the long nature of this tournament; any alternate called on will enter the tournament at the point where the player being replaced left... in other words, if the deadbeat already has a loss, then the replacement starts with a loss.
