The 2010 August Classic will follow all the rules mentioned in the basic game of Risk; the same game we all play on a nice afternoon with friends and family.
Please note that this tournament is extensive, and is more like a "league" than a tournament. Each player will have to play at least 10 games. Estimated Length: 120 Days, about 4 months As a result, premium players are preferred, although dedicated
freemium players are accepted as long as they keep 2 spots open .
If you cannot make this commitment, PLEASE do not join! The Official League Rules Note that, as tournament organizer, I have the final say on all issues regarding rules and any other aspects of the tournament. I will attempt to be reasonable and listen to players´opinions but occasionally events will turn up where difficult decisions will have to be made. As organizer I have to make those decisions and players will have to live with them. -Settings, for ALL games:
6 Players (with the exception of tie-breaker games) -
36 Players are divided randomly into
2 permanent and independent conferences of 18 players each; the Hardcore Conference, and the Epic Conference .
League Play -League Play will have
10 "game rounds" . Every game round will have 6 games, 3 in each conference. Each game will have 6 players. Conferences will play independently of each other, so the 6 players in a game will come from the same conference.
The players in every game will be randomly determined using Random.org . Every player is in one of the games per game round. Because there are 10 game rounds, all players are guaranteed 10 games.
-Two game rounds will be sent out at the beginning of this stage, and once a conference finishes a game round, the next game round will be sent.
-Performance in
ALL games will be scored as follows:
1st place: 9 pts. Note: Points do NOT carry over to the next stage; at the start of each stage, all players begin with 0 points. -In the event of players having the same number of points after all games have been played in a stage.
A game will be established with the players who have the exact number of points. The number of spots available for advancement among the players will correspond with the number of players advancing; for example, if 4 players have the same number of points and only 2 can advance, then a 4-player game will be created, and the last 2 remaining will advance.
-After all 10 game rounds are finished,
the 12 players with the most points in each conference move on to the Conference Semifinals Round ; 24 players remain at this point in the league.

Conference Semifinals Round 6 game rounds in this stage, each game round having 4 games, 2 in each conference. Again, each game will have 6 players, with all players in a game coming from the same conference. As before, the players in every game will be randomly determined using Random.org. Every player is in one of the games per game round. Because there are 6 game rounds, all players are guaranteed 6 games.The 6 players with the most points in each conference move on to the Conference Finals Round ; 12 players remain at this point in the league.

I am hoping to have this league become an annual league and have awards for players that can be kept over years. These are some of the awards that I´ve thought of:Domination Award : Given to the player who has won the most August Classics.Blitzkrieg Award : Given to the player who wins a game in the fewest number of rounds (tie-breaker games not counted).Addition Award : Given to the player who has accumulated the most points combined throughout all the stages and seasons of the August Classic.Heat Wave Award : Given to the player who has won the most number of consecutive games (if neccesary, combining games in multiple August Classics). Dates that the games are finished are not taken into consideration; measured by consecutive game rounds.Evergreen Award : Given to the player who has the most number of consecutive appearances in the League Final.Big Bang Award
