Sweet! Two reserves should be good considering all of us are premium members.

I am now awaiting tournament privileges to create games, then we'll begin the first round: the Round of 32 on the Germany map!

Since you're already an active player in the tournament, you can't be a reserve at the same time. :) ;)

Still awaiting Tournament Privileges.

Greetings fellow ambitious aviators!! We're all set to begin play.

In this first round, each of you shall play 3 1v1 games against one player, on the Germany map. Win at least 2 and you advance to the next round!

As the rules state, players will be matched up randomly. Each player is assigned a number, in the order in which they signed up for the tournament.
show: List of Players

Using random.org,

show: Randomization

Thus, our random, 16 pairings for the Round of 32 are:

show: Round of 32 Matchups

I wish you all good dice and superior strategy as you lift off on what is to be a landmark day for the world. Do you have what it takes to stay alive in the sky and touch down at the heart of communism?

Have a great tournament! The standings board can be found on the second post on Page 1, and the list and links to games can be found on the third post on Page 1!

Please check this page for updates.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Standings Updated.

We've already witnessed the fall of quite a few aviators, who either crashed after takeoff or chickened out :-s :-s 8-[

Namely, osujacket has done well in knocking off the host, me, in a shutout, blowout victory, 3 games to none.

Still about half of the series left in play! Good luck!

15 of the 16 series have been determined, meaning a player has already triumphed in at least 2 of the games.
Just waiting on the last 4 games until we begin the Round of 16.

With all 16 series finished, here are the noble and brave 16 that made it through to the next round.

These competitors lifted off successfully from Uetersen Airfield in Hamburg, Germany, and are now well on their way across the English Channel to the Shetland Islands of Scotland.

show: List of Advancing Players from the Round of 32

In the above list, each player has been assigned a number. As before, each player will be randomly paired up with another opponent and play a 1v1 series of 3 games.
The only difference is that, this time, in the Round of 16, all games will take place on the Scotland map.

Using the Sequence Generator on random.org,

show: Randomization

Thus, our random, 8 pairings for the Round of 16 are:

show: Round of 16 Matchups

Good luck in the Round of 16! You have already passed one trial: you've overcome the nerves and taken off! Stay the course!

Did You Know?

Rust was indeed a very ambitious man, and before his flight, he actually wrote a 20-page manifesto about securing peace in the coming years of the Cold War, which he wanted to give to Gorbachev personally. But even to this day, Rust has never met Gorbachev.

The 8 series in this round have now completed play. Below are the distinguished 8 that are now on their way to Iceland!

In Iceland, they will visit the Hofdi House, where Reagan and Gorbachev met not even one year earlier, the event which drove Rust to engage in his courageous flight.

For those that lost their lives on September 11, 2001 for all those heroes who sacrificed everything that day, and for all those who continue to sacrifice their lives day in day out in the name of freedom and justice, we shall never forget.

The Quarterfinals have now finished and there now remain just 4 candidates who have a shot at completing Rust's journey and enduring one of the bravest aviation feats of the 20th century.

These four players have visited the site of the summit meetings of Gorbachev and Reagan, which, in the eyes of the public (though not in the eyes of the two leaders), was a failure and yet another testament to the failure of Cold War negotiation in ending the threat of nuclear annihilation and the eradication of mankind.

With ideological motivation to continue, they now approach Helsinki, their final stop before taking off into the Soviet Union.

Thirty aspiring aviators have vanished, perhaps vaporized in mid-air from a Soviet missile, perhaps turning back home out of fear, or crash-landing in some obscure and remote wooded region in a far-away land, never to be seen again.

Only deantursx and Red Army! have continued on and have the opportunity to touch down in Red Square just outside the seat of the infamous Soviet regime: the Kremlin.

The tournament Finals have begun!

show: The Finals Matchups

Good luck to both of our competitors as they travel across the 500 miles of dangerous Eastern bloc to Moscow, just as Mathias Rust did on May 28, 1987.

Yes, yes, the irony here is incredible: perhaps we have ourselves an alternate ending to the entire Rust story, in which Rust was shot down by the Soviet army (The Red Army). IT'S ALL A CONSPIRACY (no...)!!!

Congratulations to Red Army!, for claiming victory; it's his first tournament win, be sure to congratulate him here as this is a milestone in the tournament world! Let's show your support for the...brutal...cut-throat Soviet Red Army! 8-[ =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

Thanks all for playing, and also congratulations to worthy adversary deantursx, who kept things close in the Final.

That concludes the tournament, folks!

All of you were such good sports and you are all welcome to join my future tournaments!
Check out the Pig Roast which is now taking signups!
