Not sure what happened but the Invitation for the 'Rest of World Qualification' has vanished. I'm sure I accepted but the game seems to be gone. Any ideas and has it just vanished for me?

That's really strange...The game still exists; I guess every now and then there's some dis-functional invites. I've re-sent the invite, let me know if there's another problem.

Thanks James, I'm in now and its in my awaiting players list.

5 of the 6 slots in the European Final have been determined: we're now just waiting on a series between spartacus65 and tecoman to decide the last spot and the 2nd player advancing from Block B. The 5 players who are in the European Final so far are thunderhue, phillipm, GlobeSmack, WorldCup4James, and edas. 2 of the 6 players will directly advance to the World Cup Final of Risk.
Thanks for your patience!

Standings updated; the North American Final is finished!
Sellasella123 qualifies for a spot in the Final, so 3 of the 6 spots have now been determined.
rishark1969 shifts over to the 6th Player Battle; so far it's rishark1969 and agressivo in the 6th Player battle (waiting for one more player from Europe)
We're just waiting on the European Final to end, it appears to be taking a while so I really appreciate your patience. Once the European Final is finished, then the the 6th Player Battle will immediately begin. And after that game finishes, the Final will begin!

The 6th Player battle has now been created, with rishark1969 from North America, agressivo from South America (Rest of World), and phillipm from Europe fighting to the death in a 3 player game on Classic to determine who will get that coveted 6th spot in the Final.
Standings have been updated, on top of page 14 for the status of the World Cup Final, and at top of page 13 for the details of the European Final.

Concluding the Cup

Postby WorldCup4James on Tue Nov 30, 2010 8:42 am

co-co has won the first World Cup Final and has captured the Cup for Africa, and thus the first edition of the World Cup of Risk has ended! Congratulations to all 6 finalists for achieving such great success in reaching the final table after a total of 221 fiercely competitive games. Even making it out of the divisions was a respectable accomplishment, as only 40% of players advanced from the group stage.

To conclude the tournament, I'd like to say:

  • Thank you, thank you, and did I mention Thank You to everyone who joined this tournament. You made this event possible.
  • I am planning to run this tournament again as the 2011 World Cup of Risk. Over the off-season I'll be adressing any issues that come to my attention and be reviewing the format. Obviously, the standings were not on page 1, I know it may have become an issue trying to find them. I'll make sure they're on the first page next year.

Signups are set to begin on July 14, 2011. Everyone is welcome to join, the restrictions will probably be very loose. I may slightly expand the tournament (adding maps as they are made over the off-season, and slightly tweaking the tourney format), but the overall theme shall remain the same. We'll see if I get the same attendance given it won't be a Football World Cup year.
  • If you'd like me to remind you about the Cup next year so that you can join quickly and get into the division that you want, tell me in a private message and I'll add you to my list of Long-Term World Cup Members.
  • Any suggestions for the tournament are welcomed as always.

So, I hope that you enjoyed this experience and I hope that you will consider joining again in the future. Who knows; maybe the Cup will belong to you next year...

Sincerely,
WorldCup4James

Re: 2010 World Cup of Risk [Winner: co-co] Join again July 7

Summertime is here and after nearly a year since signups began for the 2010 World Cup of Risk, I'm pleased to announce the sequel has arrived, granting everyone another journey in capturing the coveted World Cup!

What's new in this year's competition?

  • Mexico and Greenland

We welcome two new divisions and two new maps to the competition: Mexico and Greenland. Thus, we'll now have 42 maps and 32 divisions for the 128 players to choose from.
  • Twice the Games--Guaranteed!

I have eliminated the Round Differential, so all standings will be determined only by the number of wins. I am now allowing for play-off games to break up any ties. In last year's tournament, 17 of the 30 divisions had 2 or more players tied after all 3 divisional games. Now, every player will play every other player in their division twice, which will not only boost the excitement and give players 3 more chances for victory, but also break some of these ties.
  • Updated Tournament Structure

Two golden rules have been established for the 2011 World Cup of Risk:

    show: Golden Rules

Thus, consistent principles that may not have been clear in 2010 have now been established to ensure a more fair competition. The addition of 2 divisions has also called for a slightly revised format. Below is the diagram representing how players will progress throughout the Cup:
  • Let's Raise the Stakes--Only Winners Advance in 3-8 Player Standard Games

That's right: second and third place won't always cut it to advance to the next stage. In all 3-8 Player Standard Games after divisional play, if you want to advance, you must win a game. Additional matches will be created when more than one player is to advance to the next stage.
  • 8-Player World Cup Final

Two extra competitors shall take part in this year's World Cup Final. Three of the eight players will emerge from Europe, two from North America, one from South America, one from Africa, and one from Asia. Therefore, the Rest of World Qualification Championship has been scrapped; each league champion from South America, Africa, and Asia secure a spot in the Final.
  • Organized Approach

Just below the Rules of the Cup are each division's personal schedules and links to every single tournament game, giving players the power to quickly and efficiently keep track of opponents' strategies and how they are faring in the competition. Alongside the schedules are the brand-new standings board to be updated nearly every day. Not only do the standings provide player rankings, but they are also decorated with famous world landmarks.

Expect a greater atmosphere and even more energy in our second World Cup clash!
