How Fast Can You Win??
The goal of this tournament is not only going to be to win your 1v1 games, but to also do it as quickly as you can!
For this first offering of this tournament, each player needs to select a map and settings when you signup -- remember you're trying to select a map and settings that will lead you to a fast win, in the fewest rounds possible. For this reason, I don't need to ban Hive or Conquer Man from this tournament, unless you really can make a fast victory on those maps!
All games will have a 30 round limit -- players must select Auto/Manual, Seq/Freestyle, any spoils, any reinf, Sun/Fog/Trench. (Trench is going to drag out games, so really isn't recommended.)
Each round, the players will be randomly paired up using random.org, and will play a home-and-home pair of 1v1 games against their opponent, one game on each of the players' home maps and settings. Candidates to advance will either win their series 2-0, or will have the win in the fewest number of rounds in a 1-1 split. If there's a 1-1 split and both players won in the same number of rounds, a tiebreaker game will be played on a Random map with the settings: Auto, Seq, Esc, Unlimited, Sunny, No Trench, 30 round limit.
Here's where the twist comes in -- the fastest win of each player who advance from their 1v1 pair matchups will be considered. (If a player wins both games in the matchup, only the win in the fewest rounds will count for this step). The two players who needed the most rounds to win their game will also be eliminated from the tournament. If there are more than two players whose shortest victories are the highest among the 1v1 winners, then a multi-player game will be played on the Random map -- Auto, Seq, Esc, Unlimited, Sunny, No Trench, 30 round limit. The first two players eliminated in the game will be out of the tournament.
Round 1 -- 20 players -- 10 winners from the 1v1 matchups -- 8 advance after the two "slowest" winners are eliminated
Round 2 -- 8 players -- 4 1v1 winners -- 2 advance after the slowest winners elimination
Round 3 -- 2 players -- winner of the tournament is the winner of the 1v1 matchup
If this tournament goes well, I'll look at expanding the field of players in the next installment!
