WWW: Sparta vs. Rome [FULL] Need Reserves
Welcome to the second of (hopefully) many tournaments to come from GhoStedar!
I have decided to hold a tournament to determine that age old question: who would win?
My second installment will pit the mighty Legionary against the deadly Spartiate!
The Roman Legionary was a professional soldier of the Roman army. He underwent especially rigorous training; discipline was the base of the army's success, and the soldiers were relentlessly and constantly trained with weapons and especially with drill — forced marches with full load and in tight formation were frequent. Discipline was important and infractions were heavily punished by the centurions. However, honours, rewards and promotions were frequently awarded to legionaries who distinguished themselves in battle or through exemplary service.
The Spartiate (or Homoioi) were the males of Sparta known to the Spartans as "peers" or "men of equal status". From a young age, male Spartiate were trained for battle and put through grueling challenges intended to craft them into fearless warriors. In battle, they had the reputation of being the best soldiers in Greece, and the strength of Sparta's hoplite forces let the city become the dominant state in Greece throughout much of the Classical period. No other city-state would dare to attack Sparta even though it could only muster a force of about 8000 Spartiate during the zenith of its dominance. - (Sources: Wikipedia)
I'm sure you didn't come here for a history lesson though, so lets get down to the tournament. Freemiums are discouraged from entering because the first two stages require three empty game slots.
This will be a three stage contest for 16 players to see which faction will emerge victorious and who from the winning faction is the supreme warrior of the Grecian Peninsula.
