King Edmund Ironside reigned England till his death in 1045. On his death his kingdom was divided between his twin sons, Edmund and Edward. Edmund became king over the Danelaw, while Edward got Wessex. From the start the two brothers were not on good terms with each other, and the situation quickly deteriorated. The drop that made the cup overflow was the question of who would control the increasingly important trade hub that was the City of London. When Edward started building fortifications on the south end of London Bridge, the citizens of city, anxious that Edward would gain the ability to control the trade routes south, answered by attacking and tearing down the walls. Considering this to be an act of war Edward laid siege to the City.
At the time these events were unfolding Edmund was in the north, and upon hearing of Edwards actions he raised as much of an army as he could and marched to relieve his city.
This tournament will play out this battle between the brothers. Meanwhile, in Wales, the descendants of King Athelward the Historian, now lead by Godwin Cild, still had their designs on the English Crown. And the Welsh border-kings were looking to take advantage of the English war to extend their own territories.
Please state when you sign up which side you want to fight for. Edmund, Edward, Godwine, Iago of Wrekinset or Idwal of Magonset. (If you don't claim your allegiance I will select one randomly.)
If you know of any other personalities from the era that you feel could enter in to the story, you are very welcome to play for them
