Welcome to the Davis Cup 2012 [TPA2] Tournament!
This tournament will be loosely based on the Davis Cup tennis tournament. Freemiums are welcome, but you must keep three games open at all times.
SIGN UPS:
Please sign up with a partner, although you’ll be playing both 1v1 and 2v2 games. I’ll allow singles to sign up and randomly assign them partners at the end of signups. Also, if you have a preference of the country you’d like to represent, include that in your signups (obviously, only one group per country, please).
I will allow all sign-ups for two weeks.
MATCH FORMAT:
All games will be Random Map, Automatic, No Spoils, Chained, Sunny. 1v1 games will have a 30 round limit, and 2v2 games will have a 20 round limit. Each match will be a best-of-five, but each player will only play three games:
- Player A vs Player C (1v1)
- Player A vs Player D (1v1)
- Player B vs Player C (1v1)
- Player B vs Player D (1v1)
- Players A/B vs Players C/D (2v2)
Qualifying phase:
The Davis Cup is split into three “regions”: Americas, Europe/Africa, and Asia/Oceania. Therefore, you’ll be doing all of your qualifying matches within those zones. For each region, there will be a double-elimination bracket, seeded by rank, to determine where you fall within your group. The number of qualifiers from each region will vary based on the number of teams from that region, and will be announced at the beginning of the tournament. (For example, if half of the signups are from the Europe/Africa region, half of the qualifiers for each group will be from that region.)
Tournament phase:
The top 16 qualifiers will qualify for the World Group. Qualifiers 17-32 will form Group I, 33-48 will form Group II, etc. The tournament phase is a single-elimination knockout event, and you will be randomly seeded within your groups. To respect the freemiums playing, there will not be consolation brackets in any of these brackets; for TPA2 purposes, there will be an 8-way tie for 9th, a 4-way tie for 5th, etc. Winners of the World Group will win the tournament. Winners of Group I and Group II will be awarded GA medals, assuming those groups have a full 16 teams.
