Countdown III [Winner: fairman]
Posted: Thu Sep 01, 2011 8:11 am
Welcome to Countdown!
This tournament is based on the UK game show of the same name.
All players must be Premium (5 games at a time) and have at least 97% attendance.
All games will be 1v1 with default settings: Casual, Automatic, Sequential, Escalating, Chained, No Fog.
The only 3 maps used will be Classic, British Isles and Random.
Tournament Format
Each match in the tournament will be like an episode of the game show. Unfortunately the format of the series competition does not lend itself to a CC tournament, so instead it will be a 16-player random bracket.
All rounds (Round 1, Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Final) will follow the same format:
Batch 1 - 4 Letters games and 1 Numbers game
Batch 2 - 4 Letters games and 1 Numbers game
Batch 3 - 3 Letters games, 1 Numbers game and 1 Conundrum
Letters games are played on Classic
Numbers games are played on British Isles
Conundrums are played on Random Map
Scoring is as follows:
In each match, the player with the most points from the 15 games will go through to the next round.
If there is a tie, there will be 1 more Conundrum (1 game on Random Map) to decide the winner.
Reserve Policy
In Round 1, any no-shows will be replaced by a reserve (all games must be joined with 3 invitations). In all other rounds, any no-shows will be replaced by the highest-scoring player who lost in the previous round.
For this purpose, any points from tie-break extra conundrums will not count.
The Future of the Tournament
As long as it is successful, I plan to repeat this tournament. Therefore, if we reach 8 tournaments, the winner of each tournament will be invited to the Countdown Championship of Champions "Grand Finale" to compete for a General Achievement Medal.
