Splash is a 1v1 tournament. Games will go out one at a time so fremiums are welcome to join. Games for the next round won't be sent out until all games for that round are complete so the tournament will only move as fast as the slowest player.
All players will start with 3 points, you get 1 point for a win, lose 1 point for a loss. Players are knocked out of the tournament in two ways, their points drop to 0 or they are caught by a splash caused by another playing falling out.
Easier to show you how it works by running through a dummy format. No matter the number of players taking part, there will be 3 empty spaces beneath them at the start of the game. The example is set up with 20 players.
The water level will rise every 2 games completed.
All players start with 3 points.
First round of games are played which will result in half the players have 4 points and the other half having 2 points at the end of round 1.
Round 2 games are played and the points adjusted but at the end of round 2, you will see the bottom section filled in. This is the first water level. It can't go down, it will only go up.
Round 3 of games is played and I have highlighted two games, players 11 & 13 have lost all three games played. They are therefore down to 0 points and out of the tournament. When they hit the water, the splash they create causes the water to jump up 2 spaces. If 3 players were knocked out, it would go up 3 spaces, 1 player - 1 space.
Round 4 games are played. The water level rises to fill another space.
Round 5 games are played and player 14 loses their game and drops to 0 points. They are out and the splash jumps up to fill another space.
We now have an odd number of players in the tournament. The example shows a player getting a bye when this happens but one of the tournament directors gave me a better idea of how to deal with this. When there is an odd number of players, a control player will be introduced which will allow all players to have a game and effectively still have a chance of winning or losing a point. NoSurvivors will play the games for the control player. The control player will not appear on the scoreboard and will not gain or lose any points it is just purely to make sure we have an even number of players throughout the tournament.
Round 6 games are played. The water level rises to fill another space.
Round 7 and there is still an odd number so the control player is still in effect.
Players 3, 9 & 20 all lose this round and their points drop to 0. They hit the water and the level rises 3 spaces. Fortunately, no one else has been caught in the splash.
Round 8 games are played and player 17 loses, knocking their points down to 0. As it is round 8, the water level was due to rise 1 space already so player 17's splash has caught the next player up and player 7 is also removed from the tournament even though they still have a point.
If the water level rises at any point to more than 1 player with the same number of points, then they are all deemed to be at the same level and everyone on those points will be caught by the rising water level.
The only place that is save from the rising water is number 1, player at the top when the water fills space 2, wins.
