GreenBaize has requested a score update. I usually wait until all games are finished, but there is one game that seems to be going a long time, so I will give you an interim score.

GregDavidson 41
perchorin 44
moudy 40
TX AG 90 47
arno30 39
kiwi3 42
geko 40
GreenBaize 48
macbone 40
whakamole 28
mcshanester29 33
WorldCup4James 29

GreenBaize is in the lead. (Is that why you wanted an interim score? ;) ) However, he could still be caught, depending on who wins that last game. Game 10443352

I can't believe it. I have eight tournaments running. Out of eight tournaments, FIVE of them are being held up by a single game with no end in sight ...:(

I disagree with Arno,

ESC increases the luck factor. Everyone who has made it this far has shown they are skilled. I would hate for my tournament to end because of bad luck. I know luck plays a part no matter what type of spoils we use, but ESC has the highest luck/skill ratio where No spoils has the highest skill/luck ratio.

I am in no hurry, we played this long, let's do it right.

And an early THANK YOU to Duk for a wonderful and enjoyable tourney. I just wish I would have had time to do C&F every phase; those points have turned out valuable.

Congratulations perchorin!

=D> =D>

That was a job well done! Not only did you pick up 5 points for yourself and move in to the lead, but you also saved your team-mate from elimination. Arno now has 44 pts, and moves forward in the tournament. This means however, that one of the three players with 40 points - geko, moudy, and macbone - has to be eliminated. These three have now started their Berlin tiebreaker game to see which it will be.

Here are the final scores for Berlin:

Advancing for sure:
perchorin 49
GreenBaize 48
TX AG 90 47
arno30 44
kiwi3 42
GregDavidson 41

Fighting for survival:
macbone 40
geko 40
moudy 40

Eliminated:
whakamole 28
mcshanester29 33
WorldCup4James 29

Congrats to geko and moudy! =D>

A shame to lose macbone, one of the liveliest participants in C&F.

Well, geko, you killed him, so you're going to have to take up the slack and start participating in C&F!

Okay, I'll try to get Charleston up and running within the next 36 hours.

Well, we're down to the top 8 players of this tournament -- the top 20% of the 40 who started out in Montreal, oh so long ago. The next three phases are quite tough. They are meant to be! Best of luck to you all!

The KGB bagged four of our members in Berlin, so we are happy to get out of there with eight of us still alive. A U.S. pilot offers us a lift to Charleston, and we're happy to accept. Charleston saw its share of bloodshed in the American Revolution and Civil War, but that was long ago, and today the city is peaceful and pleasant. The American Robin is seen here often, so we'll celebrate his cheery song with a round-robin of 1v1 games. Then we'll get back together, have dinner, and play a couple 8-player games. After dinner two members will fall asleep and miss the flight to Chicago.

Each player will participate in:
Seven 1v1 Automatic Flat-rate Chained Sunny Standard games, one against each surviving member of the tourney, and scoring 2 points for each game.
One 8-player Manual Escalating Chained Foggy Standard game, scoring 5 points to the winner, 4 for 2nd place, 3 for 3rd, 2 for 4th, and 1 for 5th. No points for the last three placings.
One Automatic Nuclear Chained Sunny Quads game, scoring 4 points to each member of the winning team.
5 points awarded for the "colour and flavour" bonus.
Maximum possible: 28 points

(Round Robin games are not individually listed)

The Colour and Flavour task for Charleston will be posted on Sunday, as close to noon as I can manage. Given how close the scores are, anyone that doesn't at least take a shot at C&F task is cutting their own throat.

Guys, I ran into some hectic times in R/L. I didn't post a C&F task on Sunday. I'll try to make up for it in the next few days.

My profound apologies.

Hi everybody.

First of all, let me offer my profound apologies at being almost a week late with posting this. It's been kind of a strange and hectic week on the home front. I know you'll be grateful if I don't bore you with all the details...:)

Okay, the Colour and Flavour Task for Charleston:

You'll recall that the initial writeup for Charleston says:
Dukasaur wrote: Charleston]The KGB bagged four of our members in Berlin, so we are happy to get out of there with eight of us still alive. A U.S. pilot offers us a lift to Charleston, and we're happy to accept.

Okay, so here is your task. Flex your creative muscles and tell me about this flight from Berlin to Charleston. What kind of plane was it? Who was this mysterious pilot who offered us a lift without asking any payment? (It was almost implied that this was a military flight of some kind, but not necessarily. Maybe it's Auric Goldfinger in his U.S. Army disguise or maybe it's just some old hippie who has stolen a Learjet as a protest against the 1%!)

What else can you tell me about the flight? Was there a hot stewardess? Was there a hot tamale?

Did we encounter turbulence?

Be creative. Bring the story to life. You have one week.

I'd be willing to consider more time if there was a strong desire for it, but keep in mind that the Charleston games are almost done, and if we have to wait longer for C&F, and then longer again for the judges to make a decision, it will delay the beginning of Chicago significantly.

Speaking as someone who has dealt with depression, I can sympathize. However, it is an early spring.... find a hill with some trees, go take a hike, watch the blossoms unfolding. No SSRI on the planet can beat that feeling...:)

There was a white plane. Without a roof. Also, it had no rudder, so steering was tough. The steering wheel didn't work anyways, so it didn't really matter. In fact, there was no steering wheel at all. There were no seats. There weren't really places to put the seats, since there was no floor. The most ridiculous thing at all was that this white plane had no wings. It also didn't have a fuselage, and no point at all, so it was only white in theory. It didn't have an engine, or passengers, or a pilot. Let's just get to the real story:

Actually, there isn't a story either. I have been deliberately wasting your time.

Greg woke up from a sound sleep and found himself in a huge airport with a sea of humanity. He didn't know how he'd gotten there, or why everyone else was there. Suddenly a man was there at his side, and he said, "follow me, sir. We've been waiting on you." Now finding himself seated in the relative calm of the passenger cabin. Greg was sure they would be taking off,b ut to where? And where were all of these people going? The storm raged around them outside, never seeming to end, yet never seeming to alarm the crew. They went silently about their tasks. Why such calm? Greg asked for a cup of tea from the silent stewardess. "Where are we going? And what about this storm? Can we safely take off?," he asked. The plane was supposed to be bound for Berlin, or so greg thought. He wanted more tea...and a newspaper. The silent stewardess brought both. On the front page of the paper was a story about a man named Greg who had died in a car accident. The plane took off. The storm never stopped. The stewardess came by with more tea. And the storm never ceased. And the plane never seemed to end. "Would you like more tea?" the stewardess asked. "We never run out. Whatever you'd like. More tea....there will always be more tea."
The alarm sounded. Greg was later than usual for work. He grabbed his car keys and ran out the door to his car and backed quickly out of the drive way. He never saw the truck coming.

Flight to Charleston

Though we hated to leave men behind, we raced to the airfield with the KGB fast on our heels. Just that morning we received a mysterious message stating that a plane would be waiting for us to take us back across the pond. It was signed A.E.

Our SUV barely slowed down enough to run up the stairs onto the waiting craft. As soon as our butts hit the seat, we were off. Luckily, we were not deemed important enough to fire on and we were airborne without further instant.

Our pilot spoke to us over the PA announcing Charleston would be our destination and imagine our surprise when we discovered she had a female voice. So this was the mysterious A.E. - our savior. She spent the remainder of our flight telling us about past flights around the world and how much safer it was to fly across the Atlantic than the Pacific. I had to laugh when she claimed she had been a pilot since the 30's. She sure didn't sound like she was over 100!

Seems like pilot was not the only position where roles were reversed. One of our flight attendants, who wore a sequined jump suit, was the friendliest guy I have ever met. Whenever he served us drinks, I would thank him and he would reply, "No, Thank you - thank you very much" with a deep southern accent. He was an older gentleman, but still moved his hips around the aisles like a 20 year old. I will always remember his long sideburns, and deep, full lips even Angelina Jolie would covet. He told us his name was Aaron, but we could call him Bubba.

We only saw the other flight attendant once. She was an elderly lady, but you could tell she was something when she was younger. She spent the entire flight in first class, which was closed off to us. Just before we landed, she sang Happy Birthday to someone in first class. It was the most sexy, sultry rendition of the song I had ever heard. I'm not sure who the recipient was, but the lucky man replied in a heavy Boston accent - "That's wicked good Norma Jean, wicked good".

Well,

We were all grateful for this flight, Some of us had severe wounds which were getting attended to by the voluptuous stewardess, who was dressed in a low cut French maids outfit with the sexist set of stockings I have ever seen. Morale was increasing every time I looked at her (god I miss my wife!) Shock was the next thing that was starting to hit the guys, when we realised that comrades were missing in action. Remedy suggested by the stewardess, Whiskey. This girl was amazing.

As we took off I couldn’t help notice the quietness and tranquillity off the plane. I wondered, was I in a newly built stealth machine? As I look out off the window pane there didn’t appear to be any engines upon the wings, how is this thing flying…….. We were gaining altitude with immense speed right towards a thunder storm; the pilot must be on a suicide mission.

I pulled over the stewardess and asked if I can speak to the captain to give him my gratitude for flying us to Charleston. (Although my intensions were to find out what the hell was going on). She kindly agreed to escort me to the cockpit, where she introduced me to her twin sister (the pilot) dressed in a red cocktail dress. Her name….Peacock.

I thank the pilot for taking us aboard, she replied that guinea pigs were priceless! I asked what the plan was by flying us into the lightning storm. She replied that this is how the prototype gets its power to remain in flight. She explained that this was a modified glider with wind turbines and lightning packs, lightning packs I queried? Yes, she clarified that when lightning strikes the vessel it converts it into power by transducers, transformers and flux capacitors. This is the new eco-friendly form of transport, during the round the world trial they encountered a few problems and asked if they could land in Berlin for a few hours while repairs were being carried out. Everyone is so kind to help me and my sister. (I wondered why!). I have one more question, how do you take off and land this contraption? Easily she said with a smile….we have an onboard backup nuclear generator, which was the reason we had our emergency landing, it seems to be giving off nuclear fusions right above Berlin.

I wondered if this (airplane), our saviour! Was actually the demon that doomed me in Berlin? I do hate nukes.

berlin. 1961.

Perchorin finally reached the meeting point, at tegel airport, french zone, carrying with him the incouscious body of arno30. One, two, three... who's missing ? Going onboard of the US military air force waiting for us, we saw coming far away a jeep driven by geko and moudy.
"i killed the last one" said geko, still exhausted from the fight. Macbone, the last one, was left dead in the streets of berlin...

Reunited, the last participants of the game were onboard, towards their next destination: Charleston, South Carolina. What is waiting for them out there ?

The US army in collaboration with NBshit network, Caca-Cola, and Conquer Cube, joint organisers of this contest that aims at designing the world best fighter, had for them "nice" games: 1v1s, a 8-man and a team fight, using once again nuclear weapon. At the end, 6 men will still stand, and will follow their route towards chicago.

Who will it be ? we shall know soon...

See you later, after the break !
