We welcome Bonobo to the tournament, who will be taking over for banned DJENRE in the WWII Poland division!

Players' rank (number by names on the standings board) will be changed accordingly. It really will not matter in the end, since ties will be broken with playoff games.

Standings Updated.

Sorry for the delay, I have been quite busy this week. Here are the updates:

Round 12 has begun for WWII Poland division.

Round 11 has begun for San Francisco division.

Round 12 has begun for Doodle Earth division.

Round 12 has begun for Madagascar division.

I have updated the standings board for all groups. I have double-checked and found quite a few embarrassing errors in the board (my fault). They have been corrected.

Round 11 created for Germany division.

Round 11 created for Soviet Union division.

Round 11 created for World 2.1 division.

Now that we're about halfway through the second stage, I suppose I'll comment on some great performances I've been taking note of.

To begin, Copernicus continues to excel, losing only 1 game so far this stage (9 and 1 record).
But, still, there are some ambitious challengers not far away...

Since the end of stage I,
  • peanutman has risen from 13th place to 2nd place and is now only 1 game behind Copernicus.
  • 7 straight wins for machrs, who now has a 7-3 record and is in 10th place.
  • From 43rd to 19th place is the story of wrexham, who now has a 6-5 record (winning all 4 of his games so far this stage).

These are the top 3 performances I've seen so far, but there are many other players who are taking advantage of their new map choices and are enjoying some great upward mobility throughout the board.

There's still plenty of time for some great battles to take place, good luck in the rest of this stage!

You won't need to post your list until I announce the time when all players may post their list (as before, on a set date and time). I don't want to give any player an advantage because their division finished play quicker. Good that you already have the list ready though!

Standings Updated.

Germany Division: Round 14 underway!

WWII Poland and Madagascar have finished Stage II play, leaving only Soviet Union, Germany, World 2.1, and San Francisco left still playing.

Those of you already finished, now's the time to start thinking about which division you would like for the final 7 games. You may stay with your current division or pick any of the other 6. Once the Selections Process begins (I will announce the time as before), you can post your list of preferred divisions or send them to me via a private message to secure your division of choice.

Start Thinking about your preferred divisions!

Postby WorldCup4James on Sun Jul 17, 2011 8:12 pm

Round 13 underway for Soviet Union Division.

Round 14 underway for World 2.1 Division.

Round 14 underway for San Francisco Division.

Standings Updated.

Now, for all players, it is about time to start thinking about which of the 7 divisions you would like to play in next. You may stay in the same division, or switch to any other. Once all divisions finish play, I will announce the date and time of the Selections of Divisions Process. The system will follow these rules, as established at the start of the Cup:
Time to Switch Things Up---Selection of Divisions II (Stage 3)
Players will have the opportunity to switch divisions, if they would like to, according to the procedure:
*Don't have to read all this: just the colored, bold and italicized and underlined and large-sized font I ask that you read, please.

The format has changed from what it was at the start of the tournament; I've decided it would be better to have player post their divisions on the tournament page, that way all the players can see exactly when players join divisions, and so that any same-time posts would be ranked exactly according to the CC posting system to reduce possible controversy with the organizer.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Following the conclusion of the last game of this Stage, and all divisions have finished Stage II play, the tournament organizer shall post a message on the tournament page, stating the date and time when the Selection of Divisions I and II shall take place. It is likely that the Selection will take place on a Saturday.

At this point, the organizer highly suggests players should think of the order of divisions they would like, listing them in order of preference (even if they want to remain in the same division). The first division they write is the division they would most prefer to play in; the division they write last would be the division they would least prefer to play in.

  • Once the approved time for the beginning of the Selection of Divisions arrives, the organizer shall send a private message to all players simultaneously, providing them with a link to the tournament page, where players will directly post their list of preferred divisions that they had already formulated. The organizer will not accept any lists via a private message. The lists must be made public on the tournament page.

  • The tournament organizer will not select a division, as to eliminate the advantage he has. He will instead take the divisional slot that is open after all other 55 players join a division.

  • The tournament organizer will then begin with the first player that posted their list on the tournament page, and place them into the first division name that they wrote down. The organizer will then move to the second player that posted their list on the tournament page, and then the third player, etc.

  • If, at any time, a player's first division name that they wrote down in their list is full, the tournament organizer will place them into the division name that they wrote second. If that division is full, the organizer will place them into the name of the division that they wrote third, etc.

  • If a player fails to post a list (much to the disliking of the organizer) and instead just writes one division, the organizer will accept the post and place that player into the division they wrote down; however, if the name of the division that the player wrote down is full, then the organizer will respond via a private message, asking for their list of preferred divisions, thus delaying the time for the player to join a division.

Standings Updated.

All divisions except World 2.1 and Soviet Union have finished Stage II play.

World 2.1 has only one game left.
Soviet Union still has 2 rounds left.

This means we should have a bit of a break until all divisions finish play.

Standings Updated.

The World 2.1 division has finished play.
This leaves only the Soviet Union division still in Stage II. Round 14, the last round, has been created for this division.

Once this final round finishes, I will immediately establish a time for the Selection of Divisions for the final stage, Stage III, which will cover the last 7 games.

Remember, in the Selection of Divisions, you have a chance to move into another division, if you'd like.

You will post your list of preferred divisions, in order of most preferred to least preferred, on the tournament page at a time most conducive to all time zones, established by me (it's usually around 6:00 UTC, London Time). The quicker you post, the more likely it is you'll get into the division you'd like.

Again, many apologies for the delays. Soviet Union is indeed a big map and the games do take a while, and also were some missed turns here and there throughout many of the games.

Trust me on this, once a game finishes, I will update as soon as possible to expedite this tournament as much as possible.

callmecommander takes over for the inactive will_mp40, in the Soviet Union division.

Selection of Divisions II Time

Postby WorldCup4James on Tue Aug 23, 2011 4:23 pm

All 7 divisions have now finished 14 games.

Selection of Divisions for Stage III (Last 7 Games)

This Saturday, on August 27 (8/27/2011) at 11:00 A.M. North American Central Time, all players may begin posting their list of preferred divisions on the tournament page.

Converting Time Zones
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/f ... T11&p1=406

Here's the Countdown:
http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/cus ... =00&p0=406

If you can, create a list right now (it takes only a minute), ranking the divisions in the order in which you'd like to play on them.

Here's an example:

1. Germany (most preferred)
2. Soviet Union
3. Doodle Earth
4. World 2.1
5. Madagascar
6. San Francisco
7. WWII Poland (least preferred)

Doesn't have to be this formal; just have some clear indication or list, ranking the divisions from most preferred to play on to least preferred. The first division you write will be the one I will put you in, unless it is full, then I will put you in the second division you wrote down, unless it is full, then I will put you in the third division you wrote down, etc.

It's that simple. You may pick ANY division, even the one you just played on or one you have already played on.

If you can get to a computer at this established time, you have the highest chance of getting into the division you'd like. I've tried to make this time the most convenient for all time zones.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post the list ON THIS TOURNAMENT PAGE! DO NOT SEND IT TO ME IN A PRIVATE MESSAGE AS THIS WILL CLOG MY INBOX!

If you have any questions about this, let me know. By the way, here's the official process as described in the rules:
