Once you've saved the file to your computer, then the cursor can be used in conjunction with Jota's Map Assistant tool for perfect centring results first time (Provided you're not using a Mac)

Jota's Map Assistant

The Map Assistant is a Java application that provides a GUI for generating the coordinate data for Conquer Club maps

I'm just about to start some coordinate centring work... In the past I have used the Map Assistant above, although the generated placement seems to be approximate at best...

Does anybody know if it is possible to amend the cursor icon to an army number '88'?

PS. Centring is the UK spelling of Centering.

OK, I've been having a little bit of a play around, and created a CC 88 Army Number Cursor, which when used in conjuction with the Map Assistant tool mentioned above should avoid the need for most army coordinate adjustments...

I haven't got the knowledge/ability to embed this within the applet itself, but temporarily setting your default pointer seems to work... (remember to turn off pointer shadows)

R-click and 'Save target as...' CC 88 Army Cursor

Is the center of your "88" cursor the actual point of the cursor so to speak? If not, it is going to mess you up.

If you have your army circles on the map image you load into the Map Assistant, then hovering/overlaying the '88' cursor over the '88' on the image will give the exact coordinate location - it gives much better precision than the standard point-and-click.

Here's my method for easy coordinate centering - it will be slightly different for Mac users:

1. Download Jota's Map Assistant

2. Download the custom CC '88' cursor by right-clicking on the link and saving the file to your computer.

3. Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Mouse

4. Change the 'Normal Select' pointer to the cc '88' cursor, and make sure the pointer shadow is turned off. Click 'Apply'

5. Run the Map Assistant; the 88 cursor will ensure that you get accurate army coordinate placement.

6. Save your XML File

7. Remember to change your mouse pointer back to your usual settings.

Looks like a .cur file isn't a cursor file on a mac - you'd need to work out what cursor files are and save the image as one of those...

I assume it's probably a BMP

The file will contain the 'hotspot' coordinate, and transparency info, so possibly not just a BMP??

For Mach users:

Mighty Mouse 2.0

Mighty Mouse allows you to customize your cursor.
Maybe the only problem is that it isn't freeware ($ 10/12) and once an hour a pop up reminds to you to buy the product.
But it's better than nothing

That works really great (P.S. You need Application Enhancer and then your computer restarted), but there is no cursor file!

You have to access your fileden account once every 60 days to keep it live...

I got the email, visited the site a couple of time, and it still deleted everything!

After some chatting with gilligan and considering that actually we have a "small" problem with the map inspector+latest xml features, I've replaced the old links of 88 cursor so you can use the system MrBenn explained in this thread to check coordinates.
In addition, here a new 888 cursor in case you need it.
To use it, you need to follow the instructions MrBenn posted in this thread.

....and remember it works only on windows, this because Mac have no .cur files.

Actually the xml centering needs fixing on the XML wizard...
for some reason when you click on a map to create the territory, after clicking on the next territory it moves the original back one px and up one px, so when you come to do the centering...everything is off anyway.

I contacted chipv (and I'm 100% sure I'm not the only one) to ask him to pass over to me the xml wizard to keep it updated. No reply yet.
Actually we can't do anything to fix that without access to it...apart rewrite the tool from the scratch.
