The Modern Age: USA

Hi everyone.

I know all my last map ideas fell to pieces, but that's because I have absolutely no capabilities with GIMP.

So, here's a very rough outline made with a dumbed down version of GIMP (Seashore). I know it looks like shit, but I can't help it. I need to practice with GIMP or get someone to do graphics for me.

It uses all the state capitals as regular territories (plus some other cities), and they can attack each other directly within their state, but to attack other cities, you have to attack adjacent states first (does that make sense?).

Black Dots are regular territories and attack in the same manner as stated above.
Red Dots are poverty ridden cities, and lose 2 units per turn.
Blue Dots are military bases, and give +1 for each one held. Military bases can bombard each other, but cannot assault.
Green Dots are laboratories, and give +1 for every 2 held. Laboratories can assault each other across the map.
The circles are ghettos. They give -1 for 1 held, +0 for 2 held, +1 for 3 held, +2 for 4 held, +3 for 5 held, +4 for 6 held, and +10 for all 7.

I'm not exactly sure how to go about filling up the west as of yet, so suggestions on that, as well as on basic game play would be nice.

I like this idea

Although how complicated are you planning to make this map?
show: Complicated ideas

show: Extra Complicated ideas

Either way I like the idea, and i can offer help in so far as helping you learn to use gimp if you want.

Read natty_dreads guide to GIMP. It is a great starting point to get you going and with a few extra hours/days/weeks you can get something that resembles a great draft. And a draft is always a good starting point (even if it looks like crap) to get your ideas across.
Here is part 1 with part 2 linked.

Apart from that, the idea has merit.

It's an interesting idea and I think its worth pursuit. But until you have an actual draft, this belongs in the melting pot.

I'd prefer to see Canberra (Australia's capital) and Wellington (NZ Capital) on the map.
While Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland are major cities, I'd prefer these capitals included. :)

Also, I'd change Philadelphia to Washington or even New Orleans.

3 South African cities? East Rand? Mmmmm.
Perhaps Ndjamena (Chad), and Nairobi (kenya), or Casablanca (Morocco)

What about Taipei instead of Osaka

and for Asia you've got three cities in India, what about Karachi? Or Baku (Azerbaijan) or Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia)

Anyways, just some suggestions, i'm sure there will be plenty of debate about these.
Interesting Idea, awaiting the draft as is everyone else. :)

I"m thinking of making this a series (over the next century or so) and I"m thinking of starting with the USA, including all the state capitals, and the major ghettos and slums as well as major scientific bases. Then I can work towards the rest of the world.

The idea sounds interesting but I wouldn't play a map based on your first draft. Why? Because I'm not from USA, so I probably haven't heard for more than a half of cities that you have drawn there, which makes it uninteresting for me. You should make maps based on larger areas. Maybe something like: America, Europe+Asian Russia, Africa+Middle East and Asia+Australia. Those 4 are large enough so you could put only globally recognizable cities.

You will need supersize for whole America like the first nations map. Only North America including Mexico, Canada and Cuba is interesting too.

Thats probably a better idea. All of NA would work better. I can expand it, I just need a better idea of the game play at this point to see if it's worth pursuing.
