Atlantis map

Postby IrvingMorrell on Mon Mar 14, 2011 1:18 pm

Hey guys, first time posting on the forums! That said, let me just express my utter joy for this site, and the countless hours of time it's allowed me to waste from other productions. I thought I would propose a new map for CC, which I didn't see any mention of on the maps page or in a quick forum search: Atlantis.

For the sake of copyright, let me state flat-out that I'm referring to the ancient mythical city and not the Stargate franchise (though a derivative of that might be an interesting idea for later as well). Working off this image, I'd propose a multi-tiered, ringed city map with walled divisions within each ring, and natural terrain worked in as well. Here are the two images I'd propose starting from:
http://www.crystalinks.com/atlantistcapitol.jpg
http://montrealradioguy.files.wordpress ... lantis.jpg

The basic layout would have a rounded mountain at its center, with two peaks (for fun), each with its own citadel. Below and around the mountain, you would have 4 sections all adjacent in a circular ring. Outside these three would be a moat, followed by another ring of land, this time with 5 sections. Another moat and then a ring with 6 sections would follow. Each of these sections would be guarded with walls and a tower at each corner, with each tower itself a conquerable territory. Ownership of a tower allows for access along the walls (at least until hitting an enemy-occupied tower), and thereby allows a player to bypass adjacent territories and attack any space within the same ring. Bridges exist in 4 on a N-S, E-W basis between the land rings, and also are objects to be conquered. Like the towers of a ring, the bridges exist in their own right separate from the territories in a ring, making them an entirely separate territory set. In short then, you're looking at something like this:

Territory set 1 (mountain): Citadel 1, Citadel 2
Territory set 2 (innermost ring-- ring 1): palace district: scribes (1), physicians (2), musicians (3), attendants (4)
Territory set 3 (middle ring-- ring 2): temple (1, 3, 5) and storehouses (2, 4) district
Territory set 4 (outer ring-- ring 3): markets (1, 4), residences (2, 5), garrison (3, 6)
Territory set 5 (inner moat): bridge 1, 2, 3, 4
Territory set 6 (outer moat): bridge 1, 2, 3, 4
Territory set 7 (inner ring defenses): Tower A1 + B1, C1 + D1, E1 + F1, G1 + H1 (listed outer-inner along a territory's border)
Territory set 8 (middle ring defenses): Tower A2 +B2, C2+ D2, E2 + F2, G2 + H2, I2 + J2
Territory set 9 (outer ring defenses): Tower A3 + B3, C3 + D3, E3 + F3, G3 + H3, I3 + J3, K3 + L3

I'll see what I can do about making up a map to make this clearer, but what do you think?

There is an Atlantis map already. Though that is not to say there can't be another one as long as it is uniquely different in game play. Just click on Game Finder and go through through the maps until you find Atlantis.

Better still here is the image

Isaiah,WOW. I can't believe I missed that. I've checked that page more times than I can remember and still my blinded eyes saw naught. Thanks for the catch man! Still, I think I might propose my own if I can get a demo pic up for it. Cheers!

It's obviously a good idea, otherwise there wouldn't be a map of it already! :-)

Your explanations seem quite similar to the present map, though. I agree with isaiah40 that you would need to introduce new concepts for this to be interesting. Seems like you have the enthusiasm for it though!

Happy mapping!

To be totally honest, I'd rather see you pursuing an idea that hasn't already been done.
