Age of Merchants II

I recently finished a game on the Age of Merchants map. I discovered that the Ports were a better advantage then the Docks. Some regions had 2 Ports and one Dock which gave it an advantage. Regions with just one Port were hard to defend.

I suggest a similar map but with some modifications
  • each region has just one Port and 2 docks
  • each region is connect to the adjacent regions by a dock. This creates a "circle" of regions around the outside of a map
  • a Port can attack any other Port but not Docks. This is a departure from the original map
  • In the center is a Pirate region. It has a regular Port plus a special Cove that can one way attack any Dock.
  • in between the Pirate Port and the Cove is the Treasure Mountain which auto-deploys 2 at the start of a turn. It does not have a resource bonus
  • The regular resource bonus still exists for the other regions
This creates some fierce fighting for the middle of the map. It also means that if a player can capture 2 adjacent regions then he has a defensive advantage.

I kind of like the idea of an Age of Merchants II. Maybe not specifically this, but I think there are some gameplay things that are a bit unbalanced, mainly the bonuses.
