American Civil War 2.1 [ idea ]

Greetings friends and combatants !
Long before " The American Civil War " map was introduced , I had the same idea . I worked on it for some time before I realized I didn't have the tools or skills . In my version there were multiple famous battle sights with in the state borders witch were linked by roads , rail roads , mountain passes , ... etc ... and the Union Naval Blockade as well .
What if :
1. the map was enlarged as Classic is to World 2.1
2. features from the Waterloo map are added , Artillery , Calvary , Generals
3. Rail Roads are introduce and use like they are in the various " Rial " maps , but not a dominant factor .
4. add the French and British to the Union Navel Blockade .
5. American Indian tribes could play a factor ?
6. Andersonville and/or other prison camps ?
7. your ideas here : _____________________
My Dream :
" The American Civil War " map meets new map technology and forms " AMERICAN CIVIL WAR 2.1 "
Make it more like 1864 !
Good idea ? ... or not ?

If you didn't have the skills then, what makes you think you have them now?

sorry to be sceptical and all...

I gave this some thought but it's tough because World 2.1 was grandfathered in when the site admins started requiring the smaller map size. As of now, no map is allowed to exceed the specified map size. So that's the first big stumbling block. But have no fear, some cartos active in the foundry are lobbying support from the higher ups to allow a larger map size. It's hard to say whether anything will come of the persistent lobbying, but we're trying.

The problem with the current civil war map is that its just about the same as any other classic play map but in the shape of the civil war. It does little to create the situation of the American Civil War. Anyway, rail roads would be a major factor I think. The other idea that I had was to do the map with each state as its own bonus with smaller territories within it, thus reflecting hte role of state militias and the sort of civil war within the civil war going on in many states. I also thought a Richmond/Washington DC inset would be grand considering so many battles took place within close proximity of the capitals. So in essence, it would be similar to 13 colonies but with some changes to make it more like the situation during the civil war.

I did make a quicky map of the idea, but with the map size it's far too hard to fit everything comfortably in there.

Given the scale and complexity of the conflict, it might help to just pick a year as well, like Civil War 1861-62. Just trying to put in all of the elements of a single battle on the Gettysburg map was tough, and ultimately I don't think the significant "skirmishing" around the town will be incorporated, nor will the other two days of the battle.

Helix, you mention all of the battles that took place around the capitals, maybe it would be better (albeit highly Eastern-centric) to just have a zoomed-up that focused around the conflict between those capitals... I mean, just between them you've got the Shanendoah Valley campaigns, both Bull Runs, the Seven Days, Antietam, Fredricksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Grant's Drive (the Wilderness, et. al.) and the investment at Richmond (Cold Harbor, Petersbug), Early's Raid and the devastation of the Shanendoah Valley by Phillip Sherridan.

Then, you could have a separate map that focused on the 'Western' battles, and maybe a third that did the Trans-Mississippi theatre (the most neglected and overlooked theatre of the war).

Hmm... just the inset alone might be a cool idea actually. Someone want to make a map pack of the three theaters of war? Perhaps a gathering of 3 different mapmakers with the central theme?

THANKS ! for considering my idea ! =D>
I understand how the 2.1 idea wont fit in , but how might the idea of the Waterloo map lay out fit ? ... Artillery , Calvary , Generals fit in ??
I also like the idea of centralizing it to a year , and or an aria ...
