colonize the world

Postby theBastard on Tue Mar 23, 2010 3:46 pm

here is my idea, and next map, I hope, about 17. century and colonize the world. the map is builded on parallels and meridians and "windows"/"squares" which they made. these squares are areas with colonies, carracks (trade ships - near coastal) and on the ocean/sea squares are galleons - war ships. the red colonies are English, blue - French, orange - Dutch, green - Portugal, yellow - Spanish, dark red - Danish.

gameplay:
carracks and colonies could attack each other in the same square, carracks could attack others carracks and galleons in the adjacent square. galleons could attack one square up others galleons, carracks and bombard colonies.
the crosses of parallels and meridians are not borders, so attacks will looks as:
red lines attacking by galleons, blue lines attacking by carracks

bonuses:
for holding two colonies and one carrack in the same square, unite North American English or French colonies, unite South American Spanish or Portugal colonies, unite Dutch Indonesian colonies, unite Danish North Atlantic colonies. I also think about East Indian Trade Company, Hudson Bay Trade Company...

some things must be done, I think about pirates (bucaneers), but the biggest quandary is about Europe. you can see the capitals of each "imperium" but what about add there Ottomans - their possesion/colonies should be on the North Africa, Mesopotamia, Anatolia and add Russia also... or leave Europe?

hey bastard,

i'm liking the idea! about adding more powers, i think its looking pretty busy already, maybe adding more powers would make it a mess? (you could put the bonuses or a large picture to fill up russia)

so what are you thinking about the stating points? it would be pretty cool if you start at your european power and have to colonize your colonies, once there you could attack other powers colonies and through them the the other european capitals? the ships could then act as stepping stones?

Generally, 8 starting points are needed - so some indigineous starting points would be needed.

The ships scenario is a little complex. That's not necessarily a bad thing - it may just be putting people off if they don't have time to work it out.

I'll be back when I have a little time to stop by and work this map out as it is a nice idea for a map.

The ships gameplay means it is different to the Eastern Hemisphere map.

I like this idea. However, you can only have 2 maps at a time in the workshops, so I suggest you put this project in hold and get reconquista in the foundry first. When your baltic crusades map gets quenched you can start working on this one again..

to jaimito101:
it will be just about 6 regions for Russia and 6 for Ottomans. the question is if have only colonies or also europe in the map...

my idea is to do not only war map, but also trade map. if there not will be 8 nations, only Europe as starting positions is impossible. therefore I thought that starting positions will be colonies and by the ships you can slowly go to Europe and conquered capital of one imperium. it´s 17. century, so I think that colonies, some of them must be settled...

to DJ Teflon:
8 starting points are needed when player will start/play as one nation only, I think...

maybe ships looks a little complicated, about this I must think more...

yes, I could build the map on the ships. the 17. century was century of big ocean advanture :)

to natty and Helix:
so hurry with Reconquista (which is more on pork, now)...

thanks to all for feedbacks and support :D

Edit your fist draft, in the options box at the bottom with the check boxes, click the tab that says poll.

You dont need to use any of these, its just to give you an idea of where the territories are with history and how they can(not need) be organized.
I didn't knew if it would be a great idea adding quebec, so I prefered not to.

when I´m looking at your map, I think some things I will use, you have some good ideas about graphics and also I like idea about names of ships (about this I thought long and long time search on google to find names of ships from 17th century).

I´m afraid that your map is not from 17th century. it should be from 19th or early 20th century. in the 17th century had France strong possesions in the North America, Germany was not united and has no colonies, Italy the same.

Africa was not so much settled (by Europeans) and in South America were more colonies. the British possesion in the India was not so strong, India was more divided between other empires.

I do not interesting about China, the truth is that in 17th century we (Europeans) did not had much informations about it.

Australia was not important in the 17th century, only Dutch settled coastlines (north and west mostly).

and I do not know how your map will look at 630 x 600 pxs version. again thanks for help, interest. and for some tips which helps me :)
