Conquer Club

My very first attempt at a map... If you guys give me the go-ahead, Ill make you proud.

This is a very very very rough draft. If the Idea sucks I did not want to waste a lot of time.

A little about what I am going for. I like to think Im a players player. I have had high ranks but much rather play 8 man Terminator esc. maps. I love the drama, the flair, and the excitement of those settings. I love maps that are not like the others... I mean how many maps can we have of canadian citys or of europe? The look is different in those but the play is similar. I LOVE maps that are a combination of:
1) Wide open
2) deep but not over complicated
3) open to a large variety of stratagems

Conquer 4, poker, fuedal, chinese checkers, duck and cover (like 15 others) .... these are maps that a player that likes excitement plays.. at least in my opinion.


So I propose Conquer roulette..





I will make it very very pretty and cool if I get the go ahead here... just didnt want to burn a lot of time... I incorporated the "New world" concept of old country connected to new country (wheel to table) and the "Conquer 4" aspect of open table every way attacks... I Do NOT like diagonal attacking in "Conquer 4" so I made it only horizontal and vertical attacking on the table here, and on the wheel only side by side attacking.

there are 5 regional bonuses worth +3s which adds a lot of depth in my opinion. ...


Personally a player like me, has wet dreams about a map like this. But I recognize not everyone may like the concept.

I originally wanted a very complex map that holding 4 reds, 4 blacks, 4 odds, 4 evens would be a bonus.... but that might have to be "Conquer Roulette II" ... and sometimes, well many times simple is better.

I have a lot of artwork with a dealer and ppl and stuff to make this look very very attractive, and would need a partner that has done a map before to help me with stuff like xml. I know how to code perl and python (or at least did 2 years ago) so I think I can do this.

I currently have no job so can do the work on this.


Let me know what you think, and trust me I have THICK skin.. if this sucks just tell me.

Does it have anything to do with the game of roulette?

Is there a ball or something that moves around the wheel each turn?

Maybe nuke all of the black if it lands on red?

well not a lot to do with the real game... no way to make the ball move around the wheel....

but putting your chips (armys) on the table and also contolling that number on the wheel give you a bonus... which is what i thought was a cool idea...


Basically as a start... ppl are racing to get the spots on the sheel and table in sync, and spoilers and cooks are racing to crash into you... lol..

i dunno, im open to ideas, i think you can do a lot of stuff with a map like this.

That draft has some mad legibility problems that I know you would probably correct in a real map.

For one don't get too stuck on how a real roulette system looks. It is okay to have the number be in a readable orientation instead of sideways or upside down. Especially on the wheel. I find the entire top half legible but the bottom half is ridiculous. 6 & 9 are especially confusing and if they were the same color I couldn't look at the table and know which is which; the only way I do know that the black 6/9 is 6 and the red one is 9 is because of the board.

Ignoring all that though I like the gameplay idea of duel territories on opposite portions of the map. I think the only way the drop wouldn't rule the game, unfortunately, was if one of these two portions was all neutrals or if they were half/half neutrals.

Err, where is 00 on the wheel btw? Am I blind?

Anyway I can't know for sure how much this might work out unless you make a very real (aka so it looks like a CC map) looking draft. I definitely don't hate the idea.

1) Yes I already have some of the actual board finished, The real map also has dimension.
2) good point on the numbers/ didnt think about that.

1) I thought about having an all "2" Neutral wheel also. I learned the fun of 2's from feudal war.
2) I goofed, double zero is a US wheel... I missmatched the wheel and table there.
3) I have time, guess I can knock out something that looks a little better.

How about a croupier who can bombard all the territories on the wheel?

It could be accessed from the 00 territory.

Was working on that idea.. I have an working on an image of a dealer with the ball in her hand... I was thinking of making that the bombarding unit...

Please keep these ideas coming. I am a hard working but not a overly smart guy... ill need all this help.

Thats a french bet right? I played Roulette near france before when I had to go do some training with their Legionnaires. I forget the specifics, but those are bets on the wheel in a certain region, there is also one to do with the number 0 i think I use to like it =)? I think everything is open for gameplay right now. Im working on a picture that doesn leave everyone retching, and we can hammer out the bonus systems later.

if it would be possible to code i think it would be awesome to have bonuses awarded on the basis of a 'spin' (randomised number from 0-36 that pays out depending on corresponding regions held. 26 black for example would autodrop +8 on the nose, +2 even, +2 black +4 third dozen etc.) how sweet would that be? definitely worth checking out with some experienced coders in the foundry.

Well If I can get an experienced coder to sign on as a partner Im definitly game... But if its me, Ill probably be lucky to get the basic xml out and even more lucky to get this to a played stage...

Nope. The bonuses are static.

Nope. The bonuses are static.

Static Const Int to be exact. The programmer in me couldn't resist.

All the website's random and pseudo-random is reserved for the dice. Us dirty xml writing peasants don't get to have access to it for bonuses or other fancy effects.

Here are my initial thoughts on your map. Don't use "regional" bonuses. instead the bonuses on the table are based on your conquest of the wheel.

Assume a general decay on the table. (That's your bet on every turn.) Bonuses will be added based on your conquest of the wheel. The actual bonus should be in accord with the normal payouts for that spot on the table. (For example if you have 00 on the table you need to have 00 on the wheel to get the bonus. If you have EVEN on the table you need to have an army on one even number on the wheel, or RED you need ot have an army on one red number on the wheel.) The wheel can attack the table on a one to one basis. Only the wider boxes (with the lower bonuses) can attack the wheel but they can attack any point on the wheel that can give them the bonus.
