So am I being disallowed?

Put it this way; the only reason it never got finished a month or so ago, was because people were fed up with the laissez-faire attitude shown by the people who claim to have developed this map. It's a shining example of the reason that we expect mapmakers to have some sort of idea/plan for map development - it feels like it's been an Olympic Relay Race...

Since the purpose of this place is to make maps I think we can all agree that the completion of this map will be a good thing. Unit_2 has asked for help, so I don't think anybody is being "disalowed" from working on it.

The concern was that everybody who had orignally worked on this project had abandoned it, so as other people take it over questions of ownership and medal awards come up. My joke about a "foundry" sig was just that - a joke - but it is true that this has become something of a group effort at this point. At this point there must be at least five or six foundry members who have put significant time into either the code or the image (I know I have logged three hours at least), so I would caution anyone that throwing time into this project is probably not going to net you a map medal. It'll be Andy's job to decide who earns a medal, but at this point if it were up to me I'd give one to the original artist and call it a day.

Sailor, if you do indeed have an old .PSD file (which we were told was lost) of this map complete with the layers then I'd be happy to do some real work to fix the army coordinates. I was woroking from the flat image, which meant I either had to recreate the layers or do everything half-assed. I chose the half-assed option, which is why some of the coordinates remain imperfect.

And if/when the map hits BETA, the question remains who will be responsible for making additional changes as needed. I've already got half of a .PSD file going so I'd be willing to make a round of minor changes, but hopefully this project won't require much more than that.

Well I have a PSD missing a lot of layers (They seemed to have been merged with the background to save space [WTF?])

Now what needs changing on the map?

Since the last version everyone only talks about the map makers and the XML

Some of the island colors are a bit close.

Sailor - which image are you working from to center the coordinates? if you're working from the small map that i posted on page 13 (reposted below) I can play with the circles that are giving you trouble, and do something about the color of some of the islands. Let me know exactly which army circles are causing problem.

better yet, post the image with army coordinates and we can all nit-pick and I'll make changes accordingly.

Yes oak I am using your latest image, I have been trying to get a I am getting this odd XML error

line 57: <name>Est du Québec</name> - Input is not proper UTF-8, indicate encoding ! Bytes: 0xE9 0x62 0x65 0x63

I cannot seem to fix this, why is there an error?

Complete XML. A couple on the small won't center correctly (i.e. Saguenay).

You refuse to use this just for the sake of making it yourself? Adjust co-ords as you please — I used the images in the first post.

I've highlighted your problem - you need to replace special characters with a coded equivalent... I thought that this was already written, and that just the co-ords needed sorting?

Mr. Ben and Oaktown, I know both of you think I abandoned this map. But there is nothing more that I can do my self with out help from L.P. or a XML creator.

I was having the same problem that Sailor had with the XML and no one knew why it was doing it, so I asked if someone could make a new one so there was no errors on it.

If you wish, any of you can put your names in the map or get an award for helping. I just want to play this map.

I don't want my name on it, and I don't really care who gets the medals/signatures. But ownership questions do need to be considered...

Up to 2 cartographers may receive a medal for working on a map, but 1 person must have "assigned ownership" of the map, per the Copyright Agreement (located at the bottom of this page).**

@ Sailor: again, when you get to that point go ahead and post an image showing which army circles still need to be re-sized on the small map and I'll see what I can do with the image I have.

The ownership of the map, and the copyright, would be mine since I made the layout of the map. But if it goes by graphics, then its L.P.'s.

Sailorseal, Can you PM me the latest map you have and I will edit the circles on them and try to make them better.

Could someone also re-move this back to the Final Forge so we can get this done please? I will be checking in everyday and this map will be done very soon.

as requested, moved back into the land of the living.

iancanton wrote:since there are 3 3-region bonuses and 3 4-region bonuses, the chance of the first player starting with a bonus of at least +2 in a 1v1 game approaches 15%, which is too high for comfort.

our map actually does not meet the current standards for the gameplay stamp because of this. according to the opening post, there are 34 regions, which means all games will start with at least 1 neutral. the easiest fix to the map, without touching the graphics, is to have fixed starting neutrals on 1 region within only 1 of the 3-region bonus zones, such as labrador city or gros morne (maybe not moncton because they block too much there); 3 sets of 2 start positions, each consisting of 1 region in both of the 3-region bonus zones that do not have fixed starting neutrals, are also needed (see holy roman empire for how to do this).
