I like the sandstone one of the best overall, but the gray version had an element (or two) executed better specifically.

Is there a reason why Africa is this slab of grey? Can a nicer colour be used?

Because Africa is a neutral area, ie. it gives no bonus. Making it some other colour might confuse players into thinking it's a bonus area, whereas grey is a suitably neutral colour.

You mentioned earlier maybe changing the font and getting it to fit neatly into regions?
Still toying with that idea or waiting until later to decide?

I already changed the font since, and I think the current one is fine. I am planning on tweaking the labels though.

Ok, here's a slightly different hue of gray for the african area. It has a very slight bluish tint to give it a less boring look.

The grey legend is better – it takes less attention from the main map.

Perhaps you could connect the word with the number by a faded, dotted line, to make easier to read?

Arabia ................. 4

Got to say, this map looks like a fun play. :)

Hm, maybe, but then it'll have to wait until after gp stamp, when I know I won't have to change the bonus values...

I like the way the legends are now...expect for the white strip behind the 'bonus areas' title. It is to bright and cuts into your otherwise beautiful image. Perhaps you could keep the title but put it in with the grey background and stick with a less intrusive...thin white border round the entire legends area.

Cheers,

I decided to remove the legend title - it was pretty redundant and I couldn't figure out a way to fit it in good.

make the white border the same size around the legend.

Ok, let's get one thing straight first...

That thing is not a border, it's a gap. It's like, the map image and the legend are separate pictures on the same paper, and the pictures are separated by empty space (the "border").

Or that's the effect I was going for...

certainly not something i saw. if you were going for the 2 separate pictures thing then i did not get that.
i still think the gap/border should be equal.

Yeah, 2 separate pictures but which are on the same paper, so the white border you see is actually just empty paper between the pictures.

Anyway, it doesn't matter that much, it's just a conceptual thing... I can make the gaps even around the legend, it's no big deal.

Perfect.

Although would U.A.E. territory name not look better in the water above the territory? Rather than invading the space of another territory?

I suspected that would be the case. It isn't a huge issue to me where it is currently is.

One thing btw... should I mention it somewhere on the map that the African territories give no bonus? I figure it shouldn't be too hard to figure out since there's no mention of them in the bonus legend, but maybe it'd be easier to just mention it anyway so people won't have to spend time looking for them on the map...?
