Police Raid (Prisonmax type map)

Postby DarthFrog on Thu Mar 10, 2011 12:37 am

One of the maps I enjoy playing and feel we need more like it is the prison map. One of the ideas that I had was a police raid. The basic idea is that there is a house where the bad guys are holding up, and the place is surounded by police. Here is a really rough picture to give you guys an idea (laugh all you want, I have zero artistic talent)

So, a little explanation on the early ideas. I will expand on everything (including perhaps a better draft of a pic for a map) if there is interest in something like this.

Bad guys (red dots) - Right now, they are all lumped into the same category, but there could be different titles, like the boss, the girlfriend, the muscle, the dealer, gunmen, and whatever else. Depending on who you hold, there would be different types of bonuses.

Cops (Dark blue dots) - Right now, there's not a lot of action outside, but they could assault bad guys that are outside.

Snipers (Light blue dots) and Police chief (yellow dot) - Snipers can bombard the front rooms that they are facing (yes, that is a house where the red dots are, and the blocks in front are cop cars... ) but only if you hold the Chief. The Snipers could start out as neutral, and the only way you can assault them is through either the Chief or the SWAT Commander (no dot for him on the map)

The negotiator (Light Purple) and hostages (black) - Either make a special bonus, or be able to do a one way assault from the negotiator to the hostages.

SWAT Teams (gray) - Two swat teams, each with a leader. Hold the whole team for a bonus. Each team can assault their respective corner room through the window, and both can assault the middle back room. Can bombard certain bad guys that are outside near them.

Dog (Brown) - +1 auto deploy on the dog who can assault any bad guy outside the house. Get a +2 auto deploy perhaps if you hold the K9 Unit cop.

FBI Agent (Pink) - You can assault the Chief, the SWAT Commander, and the SWAT Leaders from the FBI Agents. Hold only one of the agents though, and you get a -1 bonus. Because of that, they could start as 5 neutrals each.

.... anyway, that's what I have so far. Positive or negative feedback is welcome.

I like how the chief seems to be the key to many bonuses and are the center for several paths of attack. I don't think it's possible to make the snipers only attack the bad guys if you hold him, though.

Maybe you could apply a penalty if you hold a sniper and a hostage at the same time (oops!).

A legend with the rules and some lines to represent paths of attack would go a long way to see what's going on.

I'm starting to fall in love with Supermax after years of avoid it... I wonder if there is opportunity for a sort of 'sequel.' I don't think a house would work all that great but maybe something like a hostage situation at a bank or something could work. I dunno, its tough to come up with a good scenario without totally ripping off Supermax.

I love Supermax as well!

How about a gang war, with various gangs having a shoot-out in some urban setting?

Those are two ideas I meddled with as well. The gang war would be a lot close to Supramax with the gangs. The bank idea I think is parallel to the house raid idea.... I'm working on putting a better map visual together to give a better feel for the possibilities

Alright, I tried to do the best that I could to have a better rough draft for a look at a map. Right now there are 69 regions. Probably more can be added, and with a nicer layout for a house, you could do some nice things in there as well. But, I do not have any artistic talent, but I wanted to show at least the possibilities of such a map. So here is the new draft:

Looks real promising to me! Doesn't look like you mention the weapons (white)?
I would consider making more boundaries. The outside might have fences and hedges to constrict the paths of attack a bit. I think the house should have only one or two points of entry into another room. Looks to me as if all 11 guys in the 4 adjacent rooms could attack the leader - perhaps only the guys near the door could attack him?

Also, I suggest adding a sniper to the back yard and center window. Alternatively two snipers with each their window at the corners of the house.

Both of you... if you plan on doing your own graphics, you need to learn gimp. It is totally impossible to create adequate graphics on paint.

I downloaded GIMP, and I'm such an amateur at this graphic thing, it's really frustrating. I can do the basics, but to get a really nice looking map, it would take someone willing to help with graphics. Can you point me in the direction of those willing to help with graphic-retarded folks like me?

Maybe if the house was a multi-floor mansion...with things to be stolen.

I'm working on a comprehensive GIMP mapmaking tutorial. I haven't had time to work on it much what with all kinds of stuff to do but I'll try to finish it within the next week or so. I'm not promising anything though.

Meanwhile, a good place to start is the gimp online documentation: http://www.gimp.org/docs/

Ugh, kids these days...

Really, if your attention span is that short, then how do you expect to be able to produce a map, which usually takes around 6 months from start to end?
