Change the Games split

The way I see it, there are two kinds of games:

-There's the kind where you pop in and say something random and pointless.
-Then there's the kind that you sign up for, and has a definite beginning and end, and usually a winner/winners.

I think that this should be the divide for the two games forums. Definitely, Mafia is definitely the most popular kind of the latter. But throwing all of the other game games in with the spam games makes it needlessly inconvenient for many. Most of the game games are played by the mafia crowd. We now will check the mafia forum, and already we're often forgetting to check on our games in this forum.

I have an idea for a game game, but since I'd have to create it here I'm fairly sure that most of the people who like to play game games won't see it, because this forum is mostly for spam games.

I really think this should be fixed. Rectify the injustice!

Just curious... what were the thought processes during this decision? Why was the more broad split decided against?

I agree with Dito.
Its definitely split Spam games vs real games. but with only mafia together, some of the other real games get left in with the spam games.

Dito's system makes more sense to me.

I like this split. I remember even requesting it to wicked a few months ago. Why don't you give it a try and see how you like it after a week or so? It's a bit early to start complaining about it already, when you didn't even give it some time to try and get used to it.

I might get used to it... but that doesn't change the fact that games like "1000 blank cards" and "summit race" have much more in common with Mafia than with "comment on the avatar above you". People playing games like "summit race" are more likely to be the fans of Mafia, than the fans of "the movie quotes game". I have a game I'd like to start, but I see no indication that any of the indepth-games-like-mafia-players will see it to sign up. I'd probably have to create a new thread in Mafia Games, linking to the new game in here. Already I've seen someone in GHOST comment that they keep forgetting to take their turns, because they don't check this forum anymore.

Let me be Switzerland. Who cares? So, mafia (and similar games) are in a forum by there own, and ones with out winners are in another, I think everything has ups and downs, including this,

From what I've seen since the split, the non-mafia forum games have been posted in more often than before because they're not lost in a sea of mafia games and pushed to the next page.

I also agree that those games should be moved. Makes it harder for me to find the new games as spam games tend to cover crap up.

It looks to me that while the non-mafia spam games may or may not have an increased activity (I wouldn't know, since I don't check them), the non-mafia sign-up games have about the same participation by their members as before, except for the occasions where they forget to check this forum. But sign-ups for new games, like cena-rule's Battle Rolayle and mr. incrediball's 1000 Blank Cards, are completely dead. Mafia members only check this forum now if they're already in a game, and even then they usually just do what they need to and leave.

Just before the split, there was a thread asking what interest there was in a Battle Royale. It seemed as if a lot of people (mafia players) were interested. Now, after the split, cena-rules has offered to mod one... but almsot nobody is replying.

I agree a split was a needed. There were two communities in the Games forum (with some overlap, of course). There were the people who popped into the "comment on this"/"fill in the blank" games. There were also the people who signed up for more organized games, and participated in them. The vast majority of the latter type of games were Mafia games, which is why the latter community is called the "mafia community".

I always considered things like Battle Royale and the Summit Race to be part of the whole Mafia thing. Now this move has basically killed all non-mafia sign-up games. Please, I'm practically begging you (and at the same time, laughing at myself for caring so much), make this right!

I just checked to see if the latest results for riggable's summit game were up already. It took me about 3 seconds to find the right thread. I don't see the problem. If you can't remember you're in a game unless it gets bumped to the top while you happen to be looking, the game must not be very interesting.

To help you out: I could see another solution for the problem you're having. I've seen a 'watched threads' functionality on other forums. You can add a thread from any sub-part of the forum to your watched threads, so you have a nice overview of all threads you were meaning to keep an eye on. Not necessarily games, but also interesting discussions in the suggestion forum or a map you're helping with in the map foundry could be added there. When the game is finished / discussion is no longer interesting / map is quenched, you can just as easily remove the thread from the list. Your list of watched threads would look just like a part of the forum, except of course it would contain different threads for all users.

That would be nice. But it wouldn't solve what is, in my opinion, the more annoying problem. It's not the ongoing games that are suffering nearly as much as the new games. Since mafia players like yourself check this forum in "about 3 seconds", games like incrediball's 1kBWC, and cena's battle royale, don't get noticed by nearly as many people. They really wouldn't be struggling this much to get players if the split hadn't occurred.
