cool, i win. actually incan, there was one other guy to do it, per the stark article: wildfire schulte in 1911. i have no idea what his real name was.

okay, next question: what is the oldest continuously-operating baseball franchise? this means the team that has been around the longest and hasn't closed its doors for a season.

bonus: what baseball team always opens at home and why?

Ok, I'll randomly guess the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers, and then guess the Minnesota Twins always open at home, because they play in a dome, which in early April is as valuble as a southern city, as far as weather goes.

Is it really just a dome thing? Besides the several baseball domes that have done the way of the dodo, there's still the Trop in Tampa, not to mention various retractable-roof stadii. I'm not saying the answer's incorrect, just that I wouldn't understand the logic if it was.

Its preseason...

I think even Alex Smith could complete a pass against the 2nd and 3rd string secondary on the Lions... Hell, Smith might even be in the vicinity of his WRs vs their starters

Brady Quinn proved he can throw against a mediocre defense, which he already proved in college.

 I just wanted to get you going on CC's hate-fest of Brady Quinn. I think it's ridiculous how much pub he's getting for that! ANYONE could have done that! Detroit's defense was practically conceding the field!

Once again, living in the past with last seasons stats...

And as i said, its preseason, I expect more effort out of the backups fighting for spots than guaranteed starters. I was just poking fun at you, and you turn it into another Alex Smith debate... He didnt play the whole game, so theres no telling if he wouldve screwed it up. Therefore, until he has proven himself in the regular season THIS YEAR, he doesnt get my respect.

Well, LSU's right with the Reds.... dunno about the bonus, but the bonus is sort of beside the point.

I suppose LSU should just go ahead.

ok, sorry i've been away, went out of town for a few days, no web access.

and LSU was not rite w/ the reds. here are the answers:

the atlanta braves are the oldest continuously-operating baseball franchise. actually, i've read somewhere that they are the oldest such pro sports franchise in all of north america. the continuously-operating part means they never stopped business and closed the doors for any time. they have been around since their inception w/ no layoff.

this distinguishes them from the reds, who were actually founded a bit earlier. but they had a layoff where the team was shut down. however, in recognition of their status as the oldest baseball team, the reds open every season at home. they are the only such team to do so.

whoever wants to go, have at it

oh and here's a helpful link:

Aaaahhh..... O ye master of the loopholes. I'd always thought it was the reds, and it seemed like their wikipedia page backed me up, but oh well.

All right, since gold knight hasn't jumped in yet, I'll throw out a new question:
True or false: The guy that Jermaine O'Neal punched during the Malice at the Palace was, in fact, the dude that plays Turtle on 'Entourage'. :D
