I'm going to skip much of the beginning of the movie and start it around the time someone was infected by the sled dog. *Ahem*
It's a cold, dreary night in the Antarctica base. Everyone suspects someone to be that...Thing. R.J MacReady and his glorious mullet comes up with a brilliant idea that this Thing are all trying to survive on their own and that single cells will react to a hot needle, but given the tensions, no one will be willing enough to submit to the test. It's up to the science team to band together and eliminate The Thing before it kills everyone!
(Please read the Rules as there is a mechanic for town that will be needed).
So just to confirm, as I've never played a cult game here before: We start with X Things, likely just 1. Each night, they convert someone to be part of their Thing gang. Every Thing dies when the original Thing dies?

Blood Tests... are also a way to end the day?

I'm guessing that the BT is our equivalent of a cop night investigation where the target is decided by group vote. I don't know what would happen if there's no top choice.
That seems like an obvious conclusion, but we're discussing whether or not it will end the day, or if we do both.
If it ends the day, does that, then, mean that we don't get to lynch anyone? If it doesn't end the day, and we lynch someone, does that, then, mean that whoever has the most votes will be tested? Or do we have to come to a majority vote?
We have to come to a majority vote in any case i think. And if blood testing ends the day or not, I think finding that out is part of the suspense. Who Goes There?
yeah I also got a question with blood tests? The result would come the next day, right, as it wouldnt make much sense if it comes the EOD as then the thing or whatever would just target him, no?.
If i remember the movie correctly the test gives an immediate result - basically because every cell (even the blood cells) of the "infected" person is indepedent like a swarm of ants.
So every part of the Thing is an individual life-form with its own survival instinct.
The test is taking blood and then trying to "sting" the blood with a superhot needle. The individual blood cells will wanna survive by jumping away from the needle.. so result is immediate.
The problem will be figuring out who to test (immediatly the right one) because overnight we will have to find 2 things.. also there is a mechanic in here if i get it right. The mechanic is named Childs in the movie and plays an important role.
So asking who the mechanic is will be a dilemma to TheThing. He cannot counterclaim its him too (because then we know its just 2 suspects and we have 50% chance getting him). So if the Mechanic claims its not 1 out of 10 but 1 out of 9 chance to get it right today.
But if we dont find TheThing today he could infect the Mechanic..Dimemma!

No every Thing stays alive on its own. They just multiply but are individually alive.
Im thinking 1 Thing to start but Degaston posted this:

That could mean there are 2 Things already in play?
I am reading up on cult games and rewatching the film for the first time since childhood. It is a good movie. I still don't get everything but I do get that figuring out the rules in play is part of the game.
Btw, can someone rig that Thing score sample to play at low volume every time this thread is opened. No? maybe not.
