Escalating Fog

I understand the strategy for most escalating games on standard maps is to build multiple stacks around the map and waiting for an opportune time to eliminate someone and get spoils (correct me if I'm wrong)

But what exactly is the strategy for escalating fog? It just seems like pure luck to me like you have to just randomly attack until you find that guy's last territory or you get screwed over the next turn. Or if you just stay and stack then someone does it for you.

Also what happened to the strategy forum? Coulda sworn we had one

Thanks

Well, you should try to figure out as much as possible where are every position of a player.
First most player use snapshops ( picture of the map each turn). So that you can check positions you could see earlier in the game.
Also, in some map, let's say for example world 2.1, there is often players taking bonuses. By checking on the log how many troops they receive, and your own knowledge of the map, it is most of the time possible to figure out which bonus they have, and therefore you are able to locate at once several territories of those player, or you can be sure if someone has USA bonus for example, that no regions of another player are in USA, so don't go look there.
If you can, try to block one spot, still speaking of world 2.1, you can put a stack in front of Madagascar, so that no one can eliminate the player that has Madagascar, there is several spot like that on the world 2.1 map.
Most of the time, if you figure out let's say 8/9 territory of a player, it kind be worth a try to start keep looking.
Of course there is a big part of luck. Sometimes someone will try to eliminate a player, fail, and you'll have the remaining territory of the targeted player next to you and eliminate him. That's part of the game.

it's a very good reason to change ur personal menu settings so that Panel Interface is set to Yes, if u haven't already done so. the only downsides i've experienced are virtual unplayability on an older android tablet and occasional slower response times (which can be a snag during freestyle games).
