Seems like Suggestions threads fill up with all sorts of people commenting, but almost never get input from anyone who can actually do anything to action them.
Is Suggestions just a place where ideas go to do, or is there someone, somewhere who actually reviews them?
Not any more. The current head of the Suggestions Team has not logged in for 7 months, and nobody is willing to step up and fill his shoes, so for all practical purposes the position is vacant and there has been no formal review of the suggestions in at least 7 months.
Before that it was spotty. Unfortunately, the people who actually implement the suggestions have rarely participated in discussing them. Lackattack did, in the very early days, but soon grew weary of the task. As far back as the
7th of November 2007, lack appointed a mod to triage the suggestions and started insulating himself from the process. By late 2008 or early 2009, lack had stopped participating in the suggs forum entirely. Subsequent webmasters -- El Jefe and bigWham -- have likewise not participated in the process and counted on the Suggestions Team to pre-qualify the suggestions and bring them forward.
There have been at least 8 and I think possibly 10 heads of the Suggs Team over the years -- jennifermarie, sully800, rdsrds2120, chapcrap, agentcom, metsfanmax, Foxglove, and JamesKer1 that I know of, and I think 1 or 2 others that I missed. All of them at some point managed to get some suggestions approved, but there have always been at least 20 rejected or failed suggestions for every one that has passed through the system. There's a basic conflict: the community thinks the job of the Suggs Team is to get as many suggestions as possible approved, but the webmasters think the job of the Suggs Team is to reject as many suggestions as possible and only pass on the best of the best. The stress of trying to satisfy those conflicting expectations from above and below is, I think, why the position has had such a high turnover.
The tl;dr answer: No, at present nobody is reviewing the suggestions, and that isn't likely to change until some strong and well-organized personality steps forward and volunteers to take on the very thankless job of Suggs Team Leader.
