Winning going second on manual drops

Postby xroads on Thu Jun 09, 2016 11:40 am

I am curious as to what the actual winning % is for people going second in a manual drop game?

To me, going second in a 2p manual drop game is usually a death sentence.

Yes I am a little bitter, worked hard to get to finals of a tournament. Final round for some reason was decided to have manual drop. Opponent had first turn in all four games. Guess who won tournament.

And they wonder why people get burned out and leave CC

I imagine it depends on the quality of the opponent you are playing and the map...against a roughly even opponent on a small map your odds would be really bad, a bit better on a mid sized map but still bad...a large map maybe you can win. I do well against low ranked opponents, but not as well as I would with a auto drop...not well enough to want to play that setting.

It normally is a death sentence - got screwed on a final? You're not alone, I just lost all 7 games in a final got 2 drops out of 7 - worst dice / drops / cards and the opponent had all the best. After round 1, 5 games were over. Random? Bullocks.

Well, seems you are speaking about 1vs1 game ?
Playing manual 1vs1 should be forbidden, I don't think there is any worse settings than manual 1vs1.
Can be slightly improved it's a trench 1vs1 manual

Manual multiplayers it doesn't matter if you play 2nd :)

As rockfist said, I think it depends a lot on the map, and even then, depending on which map, it can depend a lot on the placement of neutrals.

I played a Feudal War tournament where there was manual start and I would say it made no difference. That is obviously an extreme example as there are very limited initial placements and a lot of neutrals between opponents.

On some other maps that I play a bit (not that I do many manual starts), Baltic Crusades I noticed that if all your territories were connected you were stuffed going second. Your opponent could get a good run through and you often could not do much except pray for bad luck for you opponent (which in a 1v1 game seems to work about 33% of the time)
