Central Command Game Display

I'm not a fan of the card version of displaying games. As far as active games, it doesnt really bother me the way that looks, but for waiting games as well as the game finder results, the 3 columns of squares is not an efficient way to display the information about a game.

-You have scroll bars on individual games that are cumbersome.
-Waiting games are no longer sorted by game numbers, nor on the game finder (should be an option)
-It's hard to tell who all is in a game
-It just requires more work to view all together.

Maybe there are some people who like the way these games are displayed, which is why I would like to see what everybody thinks about there being a "Display Option" in the settings. Something where you can choose to view the information by the 3 columns of cards or the classic list version.

Thoughts?

Should this be moved to suggestions?

Subject: new GAME FINDER format

i'd say "search is your friend", but it's been at the top of the forum for quite some time... people are discussing it in there, go throw

Lol its not all about u.

Owen i don't think op made it clear what he was going on about. New update to central command last night. Adding in new active game finder options like campains clan warfare tournaments. Also showing how many you are active in. These are a perminant feature on your command page. And personally i dont like it. To me its just a update that wasnt needed.

This is from that thread. Its all about the whole new look. I personally do not see the point of that update. Most people come to play the game. And me personally this new update is pushing the games further down the page. Put them watch game lists at bottom of page or give us a option to hide it.or even put them under there groups ex.

Active click this then have the option of
Campain clan tourney other

Waiting click then have options
Invites requests.

Would of been a better way to do it.

Owen, that's different. The new Central Command has changed and it's shit, unsurprisingly.

If I got to my recently finished games it doesn't even show them in the order they finished, it's just totally random. How fucking useless is that? I've lost approx. 150 points overnight, not bothered but I can't even see which games it was in. I thought we had a beta site for a reason, use it.

Edit: pressing N to skip to next game no longer works, you just end up back at Central Command.

Edit2: I would add that these kind of changes are steps in the right direction, but implementing them half complete and/or with bugs is unprofessional and just upsets the community. Things should be ironed out first.

Edit3: jumping to the next game has started bringing up games where it's not my turn, even though there are games where my turn is due.

Owen: I know, I saw that one. I don't mind the new game finder, there are a couple of new search options that I like, but i hat that you cant sort by game number....but that's besides the point.

Eddie: yes, I may not have worded it well in the OP, but you are correct, this post is about the new look that updated last night. Drove me nuts immediately. I just like the old way of listing games better. Do you think its possible to work out an "option" to toggle between the display of games? Is this a Tech question? Something to go in the suggestion forum? Am I wasting my time voicing my opinion because nothing will happen?

The 3 columns of squares didn't just happen last night, that was updated awhile ago.

I am aware that they have been around a while, but they just showed up as the format on the waiting games, finished games, and eliminated games last night. It was kind of the last straw with that format for me.

I tolerated them for a while but I have become increasingly frustrated with them. I don't like them. Is there a venue to talk about changing the view or at least tweaking it? From the looks of other posts, I'm not the only one that is unhappy with this format.

Personally, I would rather use the old list version. Could we talk about creating a view option in the settings possibly?

Yeah I'm not a fan of the new central command. Too many tabs or what not at the top now. Looks cluttered. I dont like the feel of it. But like anything else, I dont know why I say anything. The people that run CC dont listen anyways. They just do whatever they want. No wonder this site is declining.

People do have opposing opinions other than "everything is terrible the sky is falling". Reading some of these forums you might never know it, but that's because most are filled with the same outspoken people posting the same things in all the different threads ;)

Not to say some of it isn't valid, but something's really aren't as bad as they're made out to be either,

There are people listening, of course. Though not everyone is going to agree everytime. There will always be something someone wants tweaked, so it's never going to be perfect for everyone.
The trouble with making everything an option, is it becomes increasingly difficult to diagnose issues, creates lag, and then those who use X want it tweaked this way and those who don't use X want it tweaked that way and if there's 10 different things, all with different options then the tweaking, complaints, and imperfections are even harder to keep up with for every single use case. Which means any other developments / features wanted to be added on have to be checked 400 different ways with every combination and even then thibgs are missed and then complaints about bugs occur and things become harder and hardware to test before launch properly.

I think part of the main issue is that it was working fine before, and there weren't vast public threads challenging these parts of the site prior to the changes. It kind of appears the recent motto for these changes is "If it ain't broke, we're going to create opportunities to break it". We don't need options, we just need simple displays and methodologies that work. The previous game finder and central command pages worked for so many years and were easily navigated by the majority of the site that remains, why rock the boat on something that was one of the few things not being complained about nowadays?

User interface was one of the most complained about things beforehand. Central command was in part to update how things appeared but also to eventually help the bigger picture / plan for the site.
Doing nothing clearly wasn't working, and updates to things are bound to happen.
Game finder was voted in to be changed by guaranteed suggestions by players, so saying that there wasn't any public demand for it is a little bit incorrect. People asked for the changes to be made. Might not have been 100% what they envisioned but again, updating pages so they are uniform with central command and overall appearance of the site is the same isn't something that should be unexpected. Going from the "square look" on central command and lists elsewhere to all one look, makes sense.

Ice Pack, you make a lot of good points. Although the "square look" is not my favorite, I guess it just is what it is.

So, new question, who do we talk to about tweaking the new square look so that we can make it better, or more user friendly. You know, provide feedback and what not?

If it's a bug (it used to work X and now when I try to do X it does Y) or just plain x doesn't work anymore, post in bugs.

If it's something new / tweaking, you could pile in on the topics in GD or (better option) would be to try reaching a consensus via suggestions on how to improve things.
Some people want X to work one way, others want X to work another. So sometimes even "tweaking to make better / more user friendly" again isn't as simple as making the changes, because it might just shift complaints from group a who don't like it how it is, to group b who don't like what it was changed to even tho group a is happy now.

My complaint about the new central command look is that the leave ratings option on the finished and eliminated games is no longer available from those pages, you have to actually go into those games to leave ratings.

There is a process for everything, I definitely understand. You can never please everybody, but there is always a way that you can do things better. At least, that's my philosophy.

Ice Pack, you have been more than helpful. I'm going to try my luck at the suggestion forum and see what damage I can do there.

Thanks,

J
